I have been working at Engility full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The pay is really good and the Management team is outstanding. Great people that promote a friendly and less structured work environment. Not as rigid as other government contractors. You have the freedom to do your job without micro managers - as long as you do it well. This is a really great company to work for that has the vision to excel. The company took a leadership position with their business model and then in the industry consolidation process.

    Cons

Cons are Industry related. Everyone in the industry is cutting cost; especially, on overhead and recompete contracts. However, this is across the industry. Some people don't understand that everyone is doing this.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to be thought leaders and care for your employees. You have done a great job!

    I worked at Engility

    Pros

I had a great time at this company. Everyone was so friendly and helpful at the same time. I had the fortune of working with such great people in a great environment that fosters learning and camaraderia.

    Cons

Benefits weren't that good by the time I left. In fact, they were degrading.

    Pros

Good group of folks to work for.

    Cons

Not with the company but being a contractor to the government is difficult if the client treats them like second class citizens.

I have been working at Engility full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The team is very supportive and hard-working. Everyone pitches in to help each other to make our deadlines and submit winning compliant proposals to USAID and we have fun & respect each other while doing so!

    Cons

Many of us wish we were still located in the Washington DC office. We make the most of Braddock Road though and have cozied up to the space. It's a nice building which helps. A lot of us still bike to work and there is a bike rack in the garage. Free gym in the building is also great to take advantage of.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leadership training was fantastic I hope that it is continuing! Also grateful that we brought the 401K back!!

Government contractors are not for everybody

I have been working at Engility

    Pros

The best part about job is working from home and the company issued company is new and efficient. I've been able to maintain a work-life balance.

    Cons

Government contracting is not for everyone. This the first government contractor I have worked for and I'm seriously re-thinking my decision to continue in this industry. The government clients pay the bills and they have to be handled delicately. I've already seen the clients not do their jobs and contractor employees take the fall. Program managers believe anything the client says in fear of losing the client. As an employee, you have no defense and just hope no one complains about you. I also have a problem with people's attitudes. I have encountered several people on this contract that are just rude. They are demanding and say pretty much whatever they want to you. My program manager made me my cry. It's not for people without thick skins.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't believe everything you hear from the clients and treat your employees with more respect.

I have been working at Engility

    Pros

Interesting work is possible when assigned to you, or requested. Opportunities to branch out and help on different sections of contract and assist other work groups.

    Cons

Revolving door, when something goes wrong the most expendable get the ax. The management layer is buffered and will not admit to errors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop making harsh irrational judgement, admit when you make a mistake, you all make them.
