    I worked at Enlighten

    Pros

Smart people. Value people. Fun culture. Emphasis on work-life balance.

    Cons

Nothing really. Sometimes size/location may limit business opportunities. Maybe a bit too process oriented at times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the culture going. Keep pushing hard for innovation and creativity.

I worked at Enlighten full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    -Good benefits and reasonable salary
    -Flexibility

    Cons

-Extremely cliquey. Not a company culture that welcomes anyone from the outside. You need to fit into their small-minded Ann Arbor point of view or you won't fit in.
    -Close minded.
-Over-thinking at its worst. Everyone would rather spend gobs of money having meeting after meeting and thinking and talking and analyzing and making charts and analyzing the charts ad nauseam than dive in and get things done or view things from a new point of view. Classic "Ann Arbor style" at its finest.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Good luck.

    Pros

Flexible hours, Friday beer cart and outside BBQs.

    Cons

Its an ad agency with clients you might not get along with, but every agency will have that.

I have been working at Enlighten full-time

    Pros

The executive management is extremely approachable and treats everyone with respect, and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. Employees are not micro-managed. There is none of the office politics you typically find at larger firms. The company has a wide-range of clients, so the work stays fresh and interesting from year-to-year. Company benefits are superior to what you'd find at Enlighten's competitors and the pay is commensurate with your job responsibilities. The physical office is open and well designed and is situated next to a woods just a few minutes from downtown Ann Arbor.

    Cons

Enlighten is not much for on-the-job training, so expect to hit the ground running. That said, everyone at the company is quick to offer help or advice when asked. Also, as a work-for-hire company, revenues can fluctuate, which has resulted in modest trims to the workforce every few years.

I have been working at Enlighten full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Absolutely wonderful work-life balance; amazing benefits and unreal amount of paid time off. The culture is very casual and self-initiative based. Lots of collaborative meetings and brainstorming sessions.

    Cons

Very horizontal company which proves difficult when trying to navigate the tough marketing-win waters. Definite silos of decision makers and no transparency on company vision or outlook for future.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more out there! Interact and share the day to day issues with your team members and prove as leaders to the employees - - they're only as good as they're led to be!

I have been working at Enlighten full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Interesting physical facility, which is the first thing that strikes you when visiting. Good co-workers, many pulled from the cream of local sources like UM and WCC. Generally non-toxic, which is all too rare. It's a smallish agency with a variety of good clients but no ecomm.

    Cons

Not everyone's cup of tea because of size and methods. But if it fits you, it's great.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Managers should also be leaders, i.e. team builders, communicators, and visionaries. Some of you are, and if you're one of them, keep it up! If you aren't, it would be great for everybody if you would think about what that could mean for you.

I have been working at Enlighten full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I've worked at four agencies so far. Enlighten employees who execute the work are mostly outstanding. Managers are medium quality. This can be frustrating to the staff. Best agency so far for me in terms of staff wanting to do a top notch job for their clients. Want to stay here.

    Cons

Managers are medium quality and probably overpaid. This can be frustrating to the staff.
Passive not encouraging regarding innovation, despite big talk.
    Dysfunctionally siloed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to what people say about work at other agencies. You have things to learn.

I have been working at Enlighten full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Very Positive atmosphere and great culture. Atrium is great for working outside and for BBQs. very laid back place to work.

    Cons

It is a smaller agency, so job security is dependent on the client roster.

I have been working at Enlighten

    Pros

Smart, good people who are motivated to do a good job. Flat hierarchy. Small size. Non-toxic culture. Nice environment. Fiscally conservative. Allows individuality.

    Cons

Too loose for its own good which can be frustrating. Related to this, a mediocre proj mgt and issue tracking system. Fiscally conservative. If there are weak links, they are at mgt level but not top leadership.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen more to your producers. Maintain your good values.
