    Pros

I got to work some very friendly people at Ensighten.

    Cons

Engineering at Ensighten is a complete joke. There is very little knowledge and support for actually creating good product using industry best practices. Productivity is totally stymied by a lack of infrastructure knowledge and roadblocks are always put up which become a barrier to success. They don't trust anything and thus have to hand-roll or build everything which is even worse due to the fact that the there is such a lack of knowledge on how to do it. For example, it sometimes takes weeks to get a couple of simple cloud servers put up. Under normal circumstances that should be able to be done in a couple of hours or less.

A culture of favoritism has allowed for inept employees to be put into positions of leadership which further erodes the environment and the ability to get anything done. The CTO is a complete joke who knows nothing about engineering principles and is not even a visionary. What's the point of having one then.

The most sound engineers have all left to truly greener pastures and any backfills that were made were with people with little to know professional engineering experience. How do you drive an engineering organization that simple lacks talent.

If you are an engineer worth your grain in salt, just stay away!

    Advice to Management

There is no simple way to fix all of the problems. There are old-timers that have to go in order for the company to succeed. Period!

    Pros

The space indeed is promising, and there could be an interesting exit. But the toxicity of the culture isn't worth any potential upside.

    Cons

CTO is a disaster. Small man, giant ego, sexual harassment liability. B Teamers all around and little to no ability to deliver.

    Pros

I was weary about leaving my previous job however it became immediately apparent as I joined Ensighten what a wonderful decision I had made. I work with some of the most intelligent, compassionate, extraordinary humans in the entire bay area! All of my colleagues work very hard ever day and still are able to maintain a relaxed, welcoming and happy environment. I am especially pleased with our leadership. I have the honor to work with them day in and day out and witness the amount of passion they have for our company and employees. On top of all that, Ensighten offers very competitive compensation and benefits.

    Cons

The only thing I can think of to share in this section and I wish I would have Ensighten sooner!

    Pros

    Very little at this point.

The company might still exit well, but its late for you to make any money. If you are thinking about doing good work, look away.

    Cons

    1. CTO and the CEO - CTO is the biggest cancer to this company. The CEO seemed ok, but he is also completely disconnected for such a small comapny.
    2. Incompetent people and acquisitons - While there were a lot of good people in the company, they no longer work here, or in the process of leaving. The management is inexperienced, clueless, doesnt have the guts to stand up to whats right. They buckle for every whim and fancy of the extremely arrogant CTO (not that he is a visionary, which would have made him tolerable) or the product guy. The backfill for the people who have quit are extremely poor quality.
    3. Unethical people - There is a dominant culture of back-stabbers and bad mouthing others behind their backs.

    Advice to Management

Instead of spending your energy to "fix" glassdoor reviews with fake 5-star ratings, you should take a look at yourselves first. It is ridiculous how your lack of vision is screwing up engineering.

    Cons

Because of our meteoric rise, there is still some chaff present. Time and pace will most effectively deal with this issues.

    Pros

Young people, fun atmosphere sometimes but only if you enjoy partying and are generally "mainstream" then you will fit in

    Cons

First and foremost, they don't have a good product to sell so get ready to lie your face off about how well it works. They are run terribly from the inside. They don't care about their employees which is evident in how they treat them when push comes to shove. Don't trust other reviews that tell you otherwise. There is reason to believe that HR is writing these reviews to deceive as deception is the name of the game here.

    Advice to Management

You aren't going to get anywhere unless you start caring about employees. Employees might seem dispensable to you but treat them poorly enough times and you will realize that all the good ones jump ship.

    Pros

The location and some of the teammates.

    Cons

You will be hard pressed to find another startup in the Valley with as many non-technical inept engineering leaders, it truly is quite pathetic and sad. The end result is a lack of any real engineering, products that will never make it long-term, ideas that are sold which cannot be delivered, and an environment that is becoming more and more composed of incompetent buddies waiting to cash out. If you are a new grad, this is not the place to learn how to build software in the modern era or launch a career. If you are a veteran with good skills you will be in for a real shock — brace yourself it will be a very rough ride. Bottom line, if you care about your career then stay away! If you want to prove to yourself that your current job is not as bad as it gets, then come on over - in only a couple of months you will really miss you current job and as most do you will regret your decision to leave. Here is a quick test, go to LinkedIn and browse the profiles of employees -- how many of them actually have strong engineering skills? Is that where you want to place your bets? To help round this out, below is a brief snapshot of the technical leadership and the CEO.

CTO — great at sales and convincing customers that whatever they dream up Ensighten has or is building. His technical knowledge is on par with a jr. to midlevel pre-sales engineer at best, he is just better at the BS game, fast talking, strutting, and chest thumping. Reminiscent of one of those fellas you meet at a bar that knows just enough about technology to be dangerous and after a conversation you walk away scratching your head. Very skilled at pulling the wool over the eyes of business folks, customers, and unfortunately the rest of engineering leadership (not hard since they are non-technical) and the CEO.

In general the engineering leadership is non-technical and lacks the skills required to run an engineering organization of Ensighten's size and stage. They are however good at building out the organization with buddies, often labeled as “super-stars” who are hired through the “fast track”, which just means that the normal interview process or any interview is totally skipped, all normal HR hiring process is skipped and they are just sold as superstars to the CEO and hired.

CEO — totally out of touch with product development and engineering, really only interested in coming up with some grandiose plans and keeping things at a very high level. Perhaps if you never dig into the details it saves you from realizing how bad things are. Unfortunately the engineering leadership are not technical enough to turn the 100,000 ft obscure vision into any meaningful technical vision or understand how to make it a reality.

    Advice to Management

    Advice to Mgmt
It is time to wake up and realize:
    1. Many of the "new" ideas are really just me-too features that other companies already have and you do not have the technical leadership in place to be able to pull them off near as good.
    2. Many of the worker-bee engineer staff see what is going on -- the total lack of leadership, buddy-hires, rampant incompetence and they are not happy.
