    Summer Internship at DIA branch

I worked at Enterprise Rent-A-Car as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Very busy most days. Not much idle time. Time goes by quickly when lots of customers are coming in. Worked 40 hours a week at a minimum. Received overtime pay when I worked over 40 hours which occurred on a regular basis. Everyone is pretty fun to work with. Managers always have games going on and the winners get gift cards etc. Learn how to deal with a variety of customers. Meet with managers weekly to go over performance and look for areas in which you can improve. Gives you great experience in a corporate environment. Learn how to sell and deal with difficult customers. Prepares you to work in a variety of work environments in the future. If you do well, lots of opportunity in the company.

    Cons

Extremely repetitive. Customers are very hard to deal with some days. DIA branch can get very busy and cars that people reserved are not always available. Overly aggressive with upgrades and insurance. Be aware that all the managers will take notice if you are not pushing upgrades and insurance. If your sales numbers are not great and do not improve, consider another line of work. Anticipate working long days and becoming very exhausted and worn out. Come home, eat dinner, and go to bed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow the interns to work in the return lanes. Place interns in different departments throughout the company for a period longer than 1 day (HR, accounting/finance). Tone down overly aggressive sales practices and techniques. Numerous customers complained of pushy, aggressive, and dishonest sales associates. The white shirt requirement is outdated and needs to be changed.

I have been working at Enterprise Rent-A-Car full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

good benefits, great place to meet new friends. Paid maternity leave with a really great 'phase-back' program. Lots of departments, therefore there is room to move up, and they typically prefer to promote from within.

    Cons

In rental, you are expected to work 50+ hours/week and get paid in peanuts. You're lucky to have two days off a week. In claims department, you are expected to do 50+ hours of work in 40 hours so they don't have to pay you overtime. No bonuses EVER. They say that they 'pay competitive salaries' which is completely false- they pay significantly less than similar positions at other companies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your people more!!! Staff appropriately!! Pay bonuses and stop overloading people in the claims department.

I worked at Enterprise Rent-A-Car full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    -Excellent benefits
    -Fun, competitive atmosphere
-Tons of monetary rewards and dinners/lunches
-Great training in the Management Trainee program
    -Great business model

    Cons

-Must work long hours; non managers do not get paid very well because it is supposed to motivate you to move up quickly
    -Inevitable burnout
-Unethical practices in each branch: Thank God for the Ethics committee that helps out a bit
-NO work/life balance (do not be fooled by anything they tell you)
-The company values the customer considerably more than the employee
-Low goal average retention for employees (About 60-70%). That says that the company does not value the happiness of their employees.
-(This is not very significant, but good to know for perspective applicants): Work clothes and shoes will wear out quickly because you must go outside in any conditions, and you must wash/clean off cars rain or shine.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More ethics audits need to be conducted at branches, because even managers are passing on unethical practices to new employees. Making profits is great, but not at the cost of the customer or the employee.

    Pros

Benefits, 401K, competitive salary, growth potential

    Cons

sticklers for the rules. Do not be late regardless of fault. You will loose your job. This is literally the only negative thing I can think of.

I worked at Enterprise Rent-A-Car as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

    - Sales experience
    - Looks great in resume
    - OK pay
    - Nice co-workers
    - They invest time teaching you sales techniques

    Cons

    - Sometimes work can get overwhelming
    - The level of support decreased as time went by
    - Job really depends on who you manager is: if you have a good manager, you are set. If you have a bad manager, he's going to put extra pressure that is not really needed for this type of job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep supporting your staff even after you've cover the basics of the business.

I worked at Enterprise Rent-A-Car full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Training, upward mobility (some of this is being at the right place at the right time), very social job-will meet a ton of people, training program will set you up for great careers when you decide you're ready to move on

    Cons

work-life balance doesn't exist, customers often treat you like dirt, compensation is terrible-especially for the hard work you put in, understaffed

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think the high company turn over and the fact that the company is paying $1,000 in addition to a free all inclusive trip for two to Mexico for any employee referrals says it all.. Enterprise should reevaluate. Word is spreading quickly about the way employees are treated and finding good ones is only going to get harder.

I have been working at Enterprise Rent-A-Car part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Enterprise does a great job at letting you make your own decisions on the operations and customer relationship management, thus its a great place to develop managerial skills. They are extremely flexible with my school schedule and willing to accommodate other events in my life. Overall, I am very grateful for this internship.

    Cons

Long hours and sometimes bad customers. It's not bad if you are not looking for just a job, this is definitely career oriented.

Also, sometimes not having enough cars is frustrating.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up with the good work when considering that the intern has other obligations.

I worked at Enterprise Rent-A-Car full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Co-workers are young, friendly and full of energy. The best thing that Enterprise does is its recruiting. This company should write the book on it.
If you work hard and are good at sales you can go far.
You learn customer service, sales, the importance of punctuality, and what hard work really means
You will form long lasting relationships with your co-workers

    Cons

The sales tactics are morally questionable.
Working at the airport location was awful. Micro-managed to the minute. (during times MTs had to ask managers permission to use the restroom)
Being promoted means your going to work 8-10 hours more a week without much increase in compensation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Less micro-management.

I worked at Enterprise Rent-A-Car full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The people you work with will be long-term friends
    Resume Builder
Every job you have after will be much easier and much higher pay for much less hours
"No Drug Testing" -said me to by one employee while I was waiting for my final interview

    Cons

    Incredibly Low Pay
    Horrible Hours
Few people at or above Branch Manager that an educated person will actually respect
You know it's bad when Managers have to lie about how much they make as a tool to "impress" employees and to keep people from quitting
Seeing at least one Female coworker cry a week due to the job

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You lose the people you should actually be trying to keep by promoting lies and deceit to sell an unnecessary product and overworking them
The people that stay DEFINITELY drink the kool-aid and it is actually creepy how much they support a company that overworks and underpays them so while screwing over customers. Sad...
This isn't the military and your break them down build them up style will only keep the lemmings who are unfortunate not to be able to think for themselves enough to leave.
