OK company to start a career

Assistant Manager (Current Employee)
Los Angeles, CA

I have been working at Enterprise Rent-A-Car full-time for more than 5 years

ProsThis company is a decent company to start your career when you are fresh out of college and have no work experience. They will teach you the basics to sell car insurance and upgrade customers. From here its up to the individuals to bust your butt to try to move up the short corp ladder or be a lame duck until you find another gig.

ConsThis company will require your time! Not just paid work hours (normally 55 hours a week) but after hour event and way too many corp event. If you don't attend these meeting, all the managers will talk among themselves how you are not devoted to the company and you are not fun person. Recommend this company only to SINGLE people fresh out of college. It will feel like a extension of a fraternity with a lot of politics.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay management trainee more money. I was one top seller and I was making same as my lazy counterpart.

Senior Customer Service Representative (Current Employee)

ConsLong hours, low hourly wage

Advice to Senior ManagementReally caring for your employees and treating them with respect will definitely produce better results for your branch.

Anyone who says this is a great place to work is a liar

Management Assistant/Staff Accountant (Former Employee)
Los Angeles, CA

I worked at Enterprise Rent-A-Car full-time for more than 3 years

ProsAlbeit the many negatives, I did get to work with some great people at my various branches. Also, most of my craziest stories come from my time at ERAC, like the time I led a mission to Pechanga Casino to take back a stolen car.

ConsAh, the cons. Well for starters, the pay is terrible, just slightly more than the starting wage at In-N-out but you also must have a college degree. I burned through dress clothing, especially shoes due to all the running around at the branches. When I received a promotion to admin, I dealt with childish managers and more backstabbing than the Roman Empire. Clearly, the managers I have worked with were poised and ready to consistently violate the company's values.

Do not work for Enterprise Rent-A-Car. You will regret it.

Advice to Senior ManagementRaise wages, restructure management, provide a clothing stipend...I would go on but it doesn't matter. Overall, management is convinced the system works and won't change a thing.

Get Trained, Get Promoted or Get Out.

Branch Manager (Former Employee)
Pasadena, CA

I worked at Enterprise Rent-A-Car full-time for more than 8 years

ProsThe company does teach you how to run an office/small business, but they pay you peanuts along the way. The upper management spends a considerable amount of time with the up and comers and they mentor their own.

ConsUnfortunately, the business model doesn't allow for flexibility, great salaries, or in house decision making. As a manager, you rarely determine your employees, your branch needs or the business you conduct

Advice to Senior ManagementOften promotions fall to the questionable candidate since sales and numbers can be unscrupulously manipulated. Untrustworthy managers are rarely good ones. The hours and salary make turnover rampant but insisting on hiring select fews keep the employee numbers too low for anyone to expect a efficient working envirionment. However, more turnover increases promotions ans sustains employee moral for a limited time. In the end, its only the top of the pyramid that hits it big.
