Great experience on a resume, but very hard work

Branch Rental Manager (Former Employee)
Pittsburgh, PA

I worked at Enterprise Rent-A-Car full-time for more than 3 years

ProsAbility to get promoted quickly if you can produce the numbers. Pay is fair, you do have some direct control over your commissions. Worked with wonderful people that I consider life long friends now, even though I am no longer with the company.

ConsExtremely long hours, terrible work life balance. Seniority not really a consideration- after 4 years (3+ in management roles) with the company, hit a rocky patch, was given written warning, and was let go within 3 weeks, without a second thought.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't use threats as a motivational tool, try actually coaching and managing your employees.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Intern, anything but a rewarding internship

Intern (Current Employee)
Pittsburgh, PA

I have been working at Enterprise Rent-A-Car part-time for more than a year

ProsYou will work with great, young people and young assistant managers and branch managers. They make up for the long hours and low pay

ConsThe work day is long and weekend work is mandatory, don't make weekend plans. Dealing with less than satisfied customers is exhausting and they have no regard for you as a person

Money based on performance and company backs you up.

Branch Rental Manager (Current Employee)
Pittsburgh, PA

I have been working at Enterprise Rent-A-Car full-time for more than 5 years

ProsCan make a lot of money based on sales.
Company will back you up in a lot of situations.
Contests for more incentive.

ConsCustomers get what they want by how loud they complain.
Work over 50 hrs a week.
Not much work/life balance.

Advice to Senior ManagementShortening the hours by even 5 hours a week would vastly improve morale.

I worked at ERAC for 3 years and was a Branch Rental Manager

Branch Rental Manager (Former Employee)
Pittsburgh, PA

I worked at Enterprise Rent-A-Car full-time for more than 3 years

ProsLots of room for advancement
Opportunity to make a lot in commission
They hire people with the same personality, so everyone tends to be good friends. (People fresh out of college that like to "go out")
Looks very good on your resume. Once I became a manager, I was always getting job offers.

ConsHours
-New hires work on average 46 hours a week
-Assistant Managers Work around 52
-Managers work around 60
If you calculate our your pay vs. hours, you actually make very little
Very Political for promotions
Very Stressful
Customers are always yelling at you and you have to take it with a smile
Very little support from upper management
Always low moral and people openly talking about looking for a new job
The average tenure in about 2 years
Extremely hard to get above Branch Manager level

Advice to Senior ManagementRemember what it was like to work at the branch level.
Worry less about numbers and support your employees on a day to day level.

I never thought I'd still be here.

Branch Rental Manager (Current Employee)
Pittsburgh, PA

I have been working at Enterprise Rent-A-Car full-time for more than 3 years

ProsThe longer you stick with it, the more it pays off; the hard work you put in today will pay off if you keep going. If you live the core values, it's really a refreshing career.

ConsPeople within the company who will do whatever it takes to succeed, even if what-it-takes at the time is unscrupulous.

Advice to Senior ManagementAllow BRMs more autonomy in determining appropriate staffing levels for part timers (it's my pay check too!)

Excellent launch pad for a career, but the company doesn't truly value their employees.

Account Executive (Current Employee)
Pittsburgh, PA

I have been working at Enterprise Rent-A-Car full-time for more than 5 years

ProsOpportunity to learn every aspect of the business. Promote from within to most divisions. Fun environment.

ConsResistant to change when it's for the better. Long hours. Unfit working conditions at various branches. Turnover is fairly regular.

Advice to Senior ManagementJack Taylor said it best, "Take care of your employees"......it starts by listening to our needs. People will move a mountain when they know you care!
