I have been working at Enterprise Rent-A-Car full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Like most things in life you will get out of Enterprise what you put into it. They hire from very diverse backgrounds and everyone starts at the bottom. Basic sales and management training is good but it will vary depending on the experience and philosophy of your managers. Promotions are based on performance and not seniority or how much the boss likes you. It's hard work and everything after this job will seem easy.

    Cons

You are only as good as your most recent numbers. There is a report for everything and you are graded daily/weekly/monthly on absolutely everything you do. Profit margins are slim so you are expected to do far more than would be expected of you in similar positions at other companies in order to keep costs down. You have to run at 95% occupancy to make money and this means working miracles on a daily basis to keep customers from waiting. Area managers are often unethical and require that you circumvent loss prevention policies to get more cars on the road and make them more money even though doing so could cost you your job (there is an ongoing war between Risk Managers and Sales Managers with both depts. telling you to follow opposing guidelines - oh and both of them can fire you). Customer Service scores make or break you and the scores are based off of incredibly small samples that, according to the reports themselves, have little statistical significance. If you had a GPA higher than 3.0 you're going to be the smartest person in room most of the time - hint: this is not a good thing. You cannot seek other positions in the company until you have been a branch manager. Even low-level assistant managers routinely work 60-70 hours a week and go without lunch breaks or overtime pay. When a car is stolen or damaged it comes out of your paycheck - yep even if it's because of a hail storm. Because promotion is based on improvement of the previous year's numbers alone, luck has a lot to do with promotions. If a major body shop opens in your area, you're going to get promoted. You have to sell CDW at around 30-40% if you really want to get promoted, but if you sell CDW to a customer who has an at-fault wreck in a new Suburban and totals it, kiss your paycheck and your promotion goodbye. Most of these things (save the ethical concerns) would be okay if only upper management showed even the smallest amount of appreciation. It is a thankless, high stress, low reward environment where ethics are preached but abandoned quickly for a dollar and your job is never secure.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get your noses out of the balance sheets and look at the conditions in your branches. You are losing good people left and right when unethical conduct is not only tolerated but taught by upper management when it makes a profit. Take better care of your people: Hard work should not be the only reward for hard work. Add real outside sales training if you want effective marketing - your outside sales program wastes time and money and is nothing but a number chase in its current iteration.

    Cons

I worked at Enterprise Rent-A-Car as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Solid training, active participation in the business, quantifiable results and impact on the bottom line. Always doing something; never a dull moment at Enterprise. Greatest "pro" was the sales skills base I now have to take advantage of at another position at another company. Received a full-time offer yet didn't want to continue doing the same thing at this company.

    Cons

Daily operations get tiresome and tedious at times. Wake up, rent cars, sell insurance, answer phones, clean cars, go home, repeat. Not what I would call a "sexy" job. The most qualified person will not always get the promotion - extremely numbers-based, not qualifications-based. Competitive nature of promotions and the business overall is een mostly as a pro but can lead to shady tactics.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Actively promote company values and culture throughout all offices and make sure branch and area managers are focused on attaining and improving upon those goals. Inconsistencies across managers and areas leads to many issues that negatively impact brand performance and retention.

    Pros

Young environment a lot of opportunity to get promoted. A very supportive system where the top level people take time to talk to you on a monthly basis in trainings.

    Cons

Long hours almost like working a bonified mcdonalds job. Must put on a fake smile for some of the rude customers. The company is so big your basically replaceable. Its a sales oriented business and a lot of customers know that and try and get free upgrades and know we can adjust prices.

I have been working at Enterprise Rent-A-Car full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

There are very few Pros for working at Enterprise, one of them would be cheaper car rentals if you travel, also they match 3% of your 401K.

    Cons

They will work you until you are blue in the face, then once you stop producing numbers they want to see you are out the door. Its very high pressure sales, some parts of the company they make you cold call for hours until you getting a meeting set up. There is a false hope of having a work life balance and they one day you will make more money and work less that 50 hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Only let you employees work 40hrs per week, also reward hard work. After all "We work hard and reward hard work" is one of the founding values that is rarely followed through.
