I worked at Epilepsy Foundation as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

There was an excellent and supportive team to assist with event logistics, design and volunteer coordination. I really enjoyed my experience and the team work that was contributed made the job a lot easier!

    Cons

The team was a bit small and more assistance was needed other than volunteer man power. It was difficult to have a work life balance because of lack of staff. Also, the pay was ok for a contract but would have been a lot better if I had medical insurance and didnt have to pay for things out of pocket.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider a larger staff but that is the challenge of NPO small staff and lots of work to be done.

I have been working at Epilepsy Foundation full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The staff here is friendly and work hard trying to get things done. Decent insurance and lots of vacation days.

    Cons

Management is absolutely horrendous. Unprofessional, unethical, disrespectful, not qualified, no respect for employees and thinks they can do it all. High turnover for good reason. No room for growth and really low pay. Look elsewhere!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to trust your employees....otherwise why did you hire them? Also wise to really look at budget because money seems to be coming in, yet nothing seems to be improving. Hmmmm...

I worked at Epilepsy Foundation part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The staff is friendly and helpful, upper management is very involved and accessible, light atmosphere, and very flexible hours which is good for college students and working mothers.

    Cons

The only benefit they offer is health insurance and it is at a high price, there is one member of the upper management that is there far too often and offers his opinion when he doesn't know what the situation is, there isn't much room for growth.

Fly by the seat of your pants and no vision for the future

I worked at Epilepsy Foundation full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Some flexibility with scheduling, and worthwhile cause

    Cons

Unprofessional, fly by the seat of pants everyday -- behind schedule and all employees are overworked, underpaid, and under appreciated. Management is constantly in crisis mode and never capable of planning for fundraising or daily operations well enough to actually make a real or lasting impact. Volunteers are used and then ignored.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a new CEO with vision and start hiring professionals -- open the floor to real collaboration between employees and the community

Good cause but unstable and difficult working environment

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee
    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    I worked at Epilepsy Foundation

    Pros

Fair salary and benefits. Generally good people that care about the cause.

    Cons

I worked at the foundation for 5 years, during that time I had 3 direct supervisors and 5 CEOs. I think that about says it all.

Poor upper level management, continually changing direction, lack of board involvement, financial trouble and high staff turnover

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This organization needs to start over at the executive level to be an effective organization. Too many "old timers" that are not willing to "really" change the organization.
