    I worked at Epocal full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    Very hard to find any positivity in such a negative workplace environment.

    Cons

    Superiors are extremely narcissistic, entitled, unprofessional, and with superiority complex. Constantly accosting employees, micro-managing, belittling, borderline verbally abusive. It makes the workplace environment seems like boot camp but without the organisation as such.
    This workplace's atmosphere is way more stressful than it is worth in compensation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Alere should monitor this unprofessionalism in their production supervisions, otherwise Epocal will have a much higher turnover rate of employees than they are experiencing at the moment.
    Suggestion to get proper management training, professional communication skills, and interpersonal skills.
    Learn to smile and be kind.

    Pros

    The technology is interesting and there are some nice people there.

    Cons

    Too much yelling. The company only has one speed, overdrive and the only way they know to motivate is to push harder. The entire staff is demoralized and demotivated. I know people were hopeful that things (i.e. management) would change with the new owners, but now that that hasn't happened everyone I know is sending out resumes.

    Learn to smile and be kind.

    Pros

    You get to work with some very intelligent people who are experts in their field. The work is very interdisciplinary.

    Cons

    The screaming and yelling at employees is demoralizing. People hate showing up to work and senior management isn't appreciative; they are very abrasive and rude. HR does nothing to stop this.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stop yelling, start listening. Your employees will (and do) leave because of your behaviour. Berating one another doesn't help anyone accomplish project goals.

    Extremely bright people capable of resolving complex issues with little resources.

    Lack of professional development.
    Senior Management lacks people skills.
    Long unpaid hours.
    HR issues that never get resolved.

    Value and respect your employees. Stop yelling and keep the drama to a minimun.

    Pros

    Large variety of work, employees are given a chance to provide input on operations issues, good pay and benefit packages.

    Cons

    stressful environment with lots of yelling, very poor communications between management and staff, questionable job security, often clashes between R&D and manufacturing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    More transparency and better communication is an absolute must. The staff, financial or technical, can't fix problems that no one tells them about.

    I worked at Epocal

    Pros

    Epocal is an innovative company with a great product concept. They could change the world with good product development and manufacturing.

    Cons

    The management team team is completely technical. They have limited leadership ability and absolutely no interpersonal skills. There is a lot of yelling at employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Management needs to realize that their behaviour is causing employee turnover. They need to listen to employees more, particularly when employees point out problems with the product.
