I have been working at Equinix full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Good work to life balance, good working environment, company is growing rapidly so job stability seems certain. Training at Equinix goes as much as you're willing to learn, there is always something new to learn every day and good opportunities to grow with the company.

    Cons

Lack of Manpower, Lack of overtime pay. Some days the workload calls for more than a given 8 hour day and the company is very reluctant to pay that overtime.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a look at how fast this company is growing, its exciting and great for the morale. However when your employees on the IBX floor, lower and middle management are saying they need more man power and you refer to paper reports to how you staff accordingly, every Equinix site is highly understaffed due to the demand of work it makes for unhappy employees (I'm not unhappy for the record). This business model may have worked in 2006 when the company was much smaller but fast forward 8 years you see rapid growth and not enough manpower to be as efficient on the large scale that you are.

Great place overall but getting to be a bit presumptive and arrogant in relation to customers.

    Pros

Good (but not over-the-top) pay and benefits. Good opportunities for personal training and development. Some jobs have good travel options (like sales).

    Cons

Senior execs seem to be resting on past accomplishments and not really staying abreast of changes in the market, technologies, and customer requirements. All of these areas are better understood by middle management and soldiers in the trenches, though.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen more to customers and to your own middle management. The things that used to be important to customers 5-10 years ago have changed.

    I worked at Equinix

    Pros

successful company, good pay, decent benefits, good location, lots of free food, occasional fun onsite events

    Cons

Leadership blatantly values sales team higher than corporate based support teams, lots of changes with high growth volume, some middle management and upper management not effective managers. Leadership seems to look at an employee as a number not as a person.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better programs for internal employee development and career pathing are needed.

I have been working at Equinix full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The company business model is great. No one else does what they do at the scale they do it. The proof of the founders' genius is the fact that the company is still going strong 15 years later.

    Cons

Way too many "senior leaders". No promotion from within. No accountability within marketing. It seems as though no one wants to measure the performance of anyone else for fear they'll be measured themselves.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Shake off your complacency and actually lead.

Great financial performance doesn't compensate for highly political, dysfunctional culture

I worked at Equinix full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Highly competitive compensation and excellent stock performance. Company's data center services are in high demand. Flexible work schedule. Some committed, hard-working people, but many who are just playing politics.

    Cons

Unfortunately, the company's financial performance simply doesn't make up for a culture that's rife with politics, dysfunctional relationships and arrogance. If you're a "yes" person who plays political games well, you'll do just fine here. If you bring energy, original ideas and assert yourself, you probably won't last. The Marketing organization in particular suffers from a tremendous amount of back-stabbing and dysfunction. This certainly points to a lack of leadership, and most executives seem to be more concerned about protecting their own images and careers than helping to shift the culture in a more positive direction. There has been an exodus of talented people as a result.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

What goes up must also come down. The company's strong financial performance won't be there forever. You need to fix the culture now if you want to hold onto your top talent.

    Pros

Fun and energetic atmosphere. Wide spectrum of experienced people in various verticals. Operationally sound and a well-oiled machine. The ability to meet all walks of life globally. The company has money and isn't shy on spending a little internally. Training is extensive.

    Cons

Company view marketed internally as a "Promote Within" organization, but hiring Executives actions dictate an exemption from the policy. A tendency to disregard reality of the marketplace as a whole. Disfunctional Midlevel to top level communication. Newly hired Executives with agenda's that don't corespond to change that's empacting, and sustainable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a better hold of what's going on at the bottom. Don't just do a global tour and then check the completed box. Listen, learn, and please take action. You are loosing good people.
