Pros
- Stable growth
- consistent stock and bonus
- industry leader
- great work/ personal life balance
- youthful low & middle management (opportunity)
Cons
- a bit of arrogance and selfishness built into the culture
- youthful low & middle management (not as experienced)
- sometimes too much political game play given the size of the organization
Pros
I enjoyed the facilities and fellow co-workers at Equinix. I feel the compensation was more than adequate for the position. Also enjoyed the scheduling and flexibility as far as taking time off when I needed to take classes and meet other obligations.
Cons
I never found a way to turn an entry-level position into anything else other than that. I feel I had a lot of skills and certifications that could have benefited the company, but never found the opportunity to use those skills to move up within the organization.
Advice to Senior Management
Look at each employee as a resource, and not just as a person filling a particular need for the company at a particular time.
Pros
The people, including Senior Management, are trustworthy, fair, and work well together. The Compensation and Rewards program is robust. Senior Management cares about employees. The company is growing, yet continues to examine ways to "get better". I am lucky to be here
Cons
Growing pains, some regional/corporate infighting, lack of systems and some resourced. All can be fixed, and some fixes are already underway
Advice to Senior Management
Keep reaching out globally. The bigger we get, the harder for employees to feel connected. And if you have any spare time, spend it on thanking the folks in the data centers around the world
Pros
Good benefits, good pay package, nice hard working people, growing company with global presence.
Cons
IT is like a sweatshop, where people are expected to hangon late (like beyond 7pm) even on fridays and even if there is no ciritcal or time sensitive work, coming after 9 AM is questioned, spending 40 hours is considered 'not working hard', people are being monitored when they enter or exit office building. Team members steal others idea and it is encouraged. Hard working and sincere people get sidelined and incompetents reap all the benefits.
Advice to Senior Management
Respect people like humans.
Pros
Small enough to be able to get things done. Market leader. A decent product and once you had customers they were generally there to stay.
Cons
- growing pains
- global integration not quite there
- portal for customers is a dog
- too many sales people given the market size
- not mac friendly in general
Advice to Senior Management
let employees buy their own computers. try to not have knee jerk reactions. integrate acquistions for customers to order asap.
Pros
Very good people, some politics but healthy business means people are generally in good mood and helpful to eachother; people believe and are excited about the company for the most part; the company appears to have very good momentum and an opportunity to be a leader in the industry
Best treated groups:
Sales - definitely a sales oriented culture -- these people get really treated well
Legal - this group enjoys very good quality of life for they pay they make
Marketing - has among the best salaries and titles for the quality of people (though they do not appear to be widely respected within the company)
Cons
rapid growth means some teams are hiring too quickly and quality of staff is not consistent across teams (sometimes people are overqualified or underqualified for the title they're hired in at); quality of life and compensation are not always fair across groups; company is very collegiate and favors "getting along" and there is a little bit of a "get on the bus or get off the bus" attitude that makes it hard to give open feedback
Finance - works among the longest hours and like many finance organizations the culture is work hard and grin and bear it
Operations - the key to the company but the leadership in this team rules with a very heavy handed approach and does not encourage going outside of the group and sharing group "secrets" with others
Advice to Senior Management
Need to develop a plan to excite the top performers; the compensation strategy favors evenly distributing equity -- so much equity is given to staff that it has become less meaningful to top performers -- the leadership team should give more equity to Directors and above and focus on cash bonuses, benefits, and quality of life for the staff below Directors so that equity to the top can be more meaningful and those that have more of a 9-5 work attitude can have the lifestyle they want; don't hire too many people to quickly
Pros
One of the fastest growing company. World's ninety percent of internet traffic goes through our data centers. All leading companies have presence in Equinix's data centers.
Cons
Very slow career growth. Company believes more in new employee than current employee for promotion.
Advice to Senior Management
Career growth and market rates for employees.
Pros
Stock Option and overall benefit package
Cons
limit career growth and below market salary
Advice to Senior Management
salary vs market price. Because of good stock option, the salary is way below market
