Former Employee – worked at Equinox Fitness full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Sexy, fun environment with a great clientele and a commitment to truly be the best in the business
Cons – Poor work life balance especially at the end of the month when many employees are required to work 3-4 12+hour days. Compensation isn't always in line with amount of work and effort provided by employees. Not bad, but maybe not always as good as it should be for hours worked.
Advice to Senior Management – Need to continue to find a way to prevent turn over in employee base, specifically in personal training staff and sales team and in club personal. Corporate retention is much stronger. There's a reason for that.

Current Employee – been working at Equinox Fitness full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – An Innovative, experience driven, high performance company. Equinox invests in it's employees, they consistently drive training and education, support growth from within and create a high energy culture that is addicting and almost impossible to leave. I'm grateful for the time spent in this company and still use the core principles and values they taught everyday.
Cons – Not a company for someone who has trouble taking feedback, you will need thick skin.
This is a highly detailed, experience driven company. If you are not willing to put as much effort into your personal presentation as you are your work then do not apply. While this company will always support your growth with training and education, your personal presentation will be a factor just as much as your performance. I personally didn't mind dressing the part, but I watched it determine the fate of others.
Advice to Senior Management – Find a way to curb the gossip. Knowledge of company moves and decisions spread like wildfire and most of the time through senior management.
The delivery difference between senior managers was not consistent. Some directors made you want to work for them because they always worked for you. Others ruled with iron fists and made you want to run in the opposite direction.
The process improvement, performance management, education, training and incentives were challenging and motivating. The people are just as unique and state of the art as the clubs. The culture was addicting and competitive. Overall, it was always a positive and high energy environment to work in.

IT Department is a joke. - There is no leader. When you step up you get shot down.
Extrememe workload with no help
No Teamwork - just a bunch of individuals trying to get through the day
Lunch was at my desk every day
No friendly people
No job career growth
No encenives to work harder
no bonus
no salery increases
no review process
Advice to Senior Management – You keep saying you are an 800Mil company - act like one. You still run this as a mom and pop shop. Listen to your employees - turnover here is high (Why???) - See above

Current Employee – been working at Equinox Fitness full-time for more than a year
Pros – The only pros about Equinox is their clubs are gorgeous! However beware, as an employee there are so many restrictions that you can almost never use them unless you have a job where you can actually work out in the middle of the day. Since Equinox doesn't hire enough people per department this was practically an impossibility for me.
Cons – NO work life balance. You don't even get federal holidays off. The training and on-boarding experience is terrible. There was little to none in my department. Turnover is higher than I have ever seen at a corporate level and either Equinox is aware of the root of the problem and doesn't care or plans to continue the revolving door. I have never worked for a worse company. Unless you are desperate for a job my advice it to stay away.
Advice to Senior Management – Care as much as the "employee experience" as you do your beloved member experience. Without your employees you can't effectively operate. Treat them better so they all don't leave.

Former Employee – worked at Equinox Fitness full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Free membership to their beautiful gyms; good and interesting people to work with; company is rapidly expanding so it could be exciting to work for a company growing as such.
Cons – In corporate it is low pay and ridiculously low increases year over year. You work very hard for minimal raises that don't even cover the cost of living increases - which are very high in New York. They don't appreciate anyone who isn't sitting in a Director's office or higher.
Advice to Senior Management – Try to pretend you care about your employees a bit. Appreciate what they do instead of treating them like garbage.

Former Employee – worked at Equinox Fitness full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – The "trendy" factor is good for a little while, but don't expect to be rewarded for loyalty or time served. If successful, opportunity to earn 90k a year is totally achievable, but good luck having time to spend the money.
Cons – You're only as good as your last sale. If you don't sell, you're out in 3 months. The base is non-existent, hence the motivation to sell. There is little to no work/life balance. There is a "closeout" at the end of each month, which consists of 12+ hour shifts during the last 4 days every month, no matter what days they may fall on. (Weekends-Holidays-Etc.)
Advice to Senior Management – Increase the base.

Current Employee – been working at Equinox Fitness part-time for less than a year
Pros – The staff is great.. Free gym membership and 40% off of the spa and shop.
Cons – The front desk is super stressful. Someone really needs to have 8 arms to keep up with the check-ins, phone and spa. Plus, members complain to us first. It would be easier to work there if I wasn't paid so little to deal with so much.
Advice to Senior Management – There needs to be at lease two employees there during down time. We can't even leave to use the bathroom sometimes.

Former Employee – worked at Equinox Fitness part-time for more than a year
Pros – Being a former employee I was able to work with and learn skills and knowledge of how important fitness is. As a massage therapist, I worked with excellent and knowledgeable personal trainers that helped me expand my work for a more complete assessment and strategy.
Cons – Most members of the club come to workout and not visit the spa
Advice to Senior Management – Advertise the spa more to the public. This will attract more clients to the spa but also leave potential for new members of the club.
