    Pros

The only reason to work at Equinox is the amount of education and experience the trainers there have. There are very knowledgeable people to collaborate with and learn from. This is the ONLY benefit of working as a trainer there.

    Cons

Be prepared to offer a very expensive service to your clients of which you will only ever get paid 30% maximum. The hours are very sporadic and floor shifts are brutal. They call it time to "build your business" and it is very hard to do that while having to work on the floor. Of all the trainers I talked to, 90% of them could not pick up a client in a "blue floor shirt" because of the stigma. Upon being hired my group was told almost all the trainers had full time client loads (21+ sessions a week) but I soon learned that only about 8 out of almost 60 trainers at the club actually had that. Mind you, you have to do floor shifts if you don't have a full client load and a lot of these trainers have been there 2+ years without full time client schedules. Plus the clientele, while rich are always traveling so it's like running in a hamster wheel. It is very much like playing chutes and ladders, there are so many hoops to jump through by the time you think you're getting somewhere, think again. They like to say if you keep your head down and work hard things will happen, so maybe it's just this location, but the system is stacked against you, whatever management tells you, don't believe otherwise. Even the trainers who were set up to help us in the beginning soon began to show and tell us how burnt out and exhausted they were and two of them quit not even after two months of us arriving.

    Advice to Management

The system itself is counterproductive as far as floor shift requirements and pay scale goes. Just give your trainers there education, be lenient, hire less and give them whatever you can in a system that's highly stacked against them.

    Pros

Beautiful setting, wonderful members and clients.

    Cons

Management that is way too young and self centered. Clicky, young, inexperienced, unprofessional, and you better be drinking their kool-aid. If you are an over 50 employee, forget it. They don't want you. They run the place based on popularity. I was there for 2 1/2 years. In that time they went through at least 16 sales people, 3 GM's, 4 AGM's, and countless personal trainers.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to what your management is doing. You will never survive in the particular location I was at because your management team is too young to understand the needs of that particular demographic. Management needs to stop telling employees to loose weight, get a facial if their face is broken out, an employee is negative and complaining for stating their opinions. You guys needs to get it together to survive in suburbia

    Pros

-Great environment, I worked with a personal trainer or took a fitness class everyday for free -Cool celebs and big names come in constantly -Health/Dental coverage

    Cons

-Long hours working 12 hour days are very common, in fact they are mandatory 1 week of every month - Unrealistically high goals, when you don't hit your goal you don't make money -Base pay is 12k a year, so it is all commission -Mgmt focused solely on new membership, do not care about customer service - A TON of high maintenance members. You will be guaranteed to get yelled at by at least a handful for not being able to comp them or lower membership prices, etc. -No time off, not even christmas or thanksgiving. No holidays. Days you take off you lose money and makes it harder to hit your goal. Vacations are discouraged. No work life balance -Barely any room for growth -High turnover, most people do not stay longer than 6 months

    Advice to Management

Appreciate your Membership Advisors much better. They are the only way the company makes money and they are not compensated or treated as so. GIVE PEOPLE TIME OFF. No one succeeds when employees get burnout
