I worked at Era Helicopters, Llc full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Era is rapidly changing as a result of going public in 2013; there is pressure to improve every quarter. This has affected every department and although things have been tumultuous, Era is consistently making improvements and it shows.

    Cons

Era still has a ways to go to reach a standardized operating model in terms of career advancement, standardized compensation, etc.

    Advice to Management

Keep soliciting feedback from the field and listening to it. The more this is done, and the more employees are aware of it, the greater the pace of improvement that will be realized in the future.

I have been working at Era Helicopters, Llc full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are wonderful people to work with at Era; however, that is out weighed by the people you have to work for. They are the ones that make your job absolutely miserable.

    Cons

You will be over worked and under paid in just about every position at Era. The purchasing dept. has the HIGHEST turnover rate at Era. Purchasing is required to alternate working weekends, holidays, and any other extra time management feels is needed and there is no compensation for it. It is supposed to be a 5x2 position (5 days on, 2 days off) but you have to work whenever they tell you and however many hours of overtime they tell you with no extra pay. The HR manager will confirm this to you; and the job pays less than $40,000 a year. Many other departments are run the same way. It gets very exhausting putting in so much time and effort with zero recognition at the time and during annual employee reviews. Hard work does not pay off at Era and is not appreciated only expected. I believe that at one point in time Era was a great place to work at. However, during the years that I have been employed there it has not been pleasant. There are very few options to move up in the company or even around the company; the reason is because your manger has to agree to allow you to apply for another position before you can actually do it. If your manger says no, then you cannot apply. It is very difficult to challenge anything you do not agree with because Era is an "at will employment", so they can let you go at any time for any reason or for no reason at all. This gives managers even more power than they already have. I would recommend to anyone who applies for a job at Era to do so with extreme caution.

    Advice to Management

Advice to management would not help because management is the problem. This is a company with managers who enforce the rules to employees but don't follow those rules themselves.

I have been working at Era Helicopters, Llc full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

14/14 rotations, diverse aircraft experience, knowledgable co-workers

    Cons

Top-heavy company full of 'managers' that must make new rules to justify their positions. This leads to an ever-changing set of (often pointless) rules that are often vague and written in such a way as to be applied at managements convenience. Those at the top either never worked day-to-day at the bottom or have forgotten basic things such as "sometimes vise-grips ARE the right tool for the job". The focus on safety, while well-intended, has led to an endless maze of red tape to accomplish the most basic tasks. The pay is a joke. If they give a raise, they turn around and take from somewhere else. Forcing the field mechanics to live 20 miles away, but only compensate for 2 miles of driving, sub-standard per diem rates, banned tools like crescent wrenches, vise-grips, ford-wrenches, etc make enjoying your job all but impossible at times.

    Advice to Management

Stop treating your employees like children in a day-care and like the professionals they are. Instead of punishing everyone with a new policy, get rid of the incompetent employee that was the cause of the new rule. The cameras inside and outside of the hangar lend a "big brother" atmosphere to the work environment.

I have been working at Era Helicopters, Llc full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Cannot really think of any pros. They pay employees on time ;)

    Cons

The new management has no operational direction, well what would you expect from a company being run by a bunch of ex-bankers. The only senior management who know something about aviation think they are god's gift to the aviation industry and are trying to get as much brown stuff on their nose as they possibly can. This company has no direction and is waiting to be sold or acquired. Don't waste your time

    Advice to Management

    Go back to investment banking

I worked at Era Helicopters, Llc full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Focus on safety and process control is genuine. Compensation is good overall, but a bit disproportionate at the top.

    Cons

No direction as a company, and communication is non-existent. It's more about who you know than your performance, especially in maintenance areas. The DoM is more interested in playing the part, than doing the job.

    Advice to Management

Get your act together quickly or you will start to lose contracts and more good people

    Pros

Growing company, flexible schedules, new, forward thinking leadership. Even as a large company with offices all over, Era has a small company feel.

    Cons

Some outdated processes are still in place.

I worked at Era Helicopters, Llc full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Available parts and maintenance is good on the aircraft.

    Cons

The company is lacking leadership and knowledge for the jobs they are trying to take. This is more for the Alaska division as they are the lowest paid pilots doing a skill set paid the same as a off shore platform pilot. The pay is the same as the gulf and the cost of living is 3X as much in Alaska. They expect the pilots to do drill moves, seismic, OAS work for $60,000 a year! This stems from the "Bean Counters" in management that have NO AVIATION EXPERIENCE and think that a helicopter pilot is a helicopter pilot. Also let it be know they will try and tell you in Lake Charles that when you get to Alaska your offer will be made. Don't be fooled it's all a lie and get what you want in writing. The two divisions should be that same but there is a huge disconnect on what is really happening in Alaska. They just look the other way when it comes to complaints and payroll issues dumping it on the manager for Alaska who does not care and is not on our side.

    Advice to Management

Put a leader upstairs that has been in the field and will understand the skill set and pay that is deserved. Sorry but accountants belong in a cubicle not near a flight line....
