I worked at Erickson Retirement Communities full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Co-workers are great! Residents are Amazing!

    Cons

Erickson Corp likes to control the communities from a distance. They make significant changes with manager and director input which is making employees very unhappy, sick and leaving. No career advancement, they hire external before promoting from within.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start listening to your employees before they seek out a louder voice for themselves. Stop hiring and trying to be like you competitor Sunrise.

I worked at Erickson Retirement Communities full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Campus was clean, upscale, not afraid to spend money on nice things

    Cons

These people can't make a decision to save their lives, always drama. Dining services is lacking. Poor menus and service is not up to standard. No leadership unless certifiably psycho leads and that needs to be walked or kicked out the door

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Visit other facilities around the area. It doesn't matter how nice your building looks, if your care sucks... So does the facility. Worse nursing care I've seen in a long time. Remember we are there to help the residents. Not there so the residents can be mean and ugly to use. Worse and meanest group I've ever seen. So sad.

    Cons

Making sure you come to work focus and stay out of clicks. You never know whos watching you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at Erickson Retirement Communities full-time

    Pros

the people were fun. the mission was important

    Cons

complete cronyism. unprofessional treatment of women and anyone who wasn't a Christian or in Young Life

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I didn't work there under the new CEO and I hear great things about him. I am glad to see that he is there to save things. It is a shame how things worked out for the Erickson family. But slow and steady wins the race, not overblown egos and hiring your tennis instructor or some random guy from young life camp to do your accounting

I worked at Erickson Retirement Communities full-time for less than a year

    Pros

It wasn't the worst place to work.

    Cons

Executive Director forces employees to dress up for Halloween, sing, and dance in front of the residents.

Got yelled at by him when I was told by someone else we had to perform karoke in front of the other employees, and I said "I don't think so!" thinking it was a joke. It turned out he was standing outside the room listening to the conversation.

The pressure to be animated caused a lot of employees to act really strange.

Despite transferring from the corporate office and being a senior employee while nearly everyone else was new, I felt like an outsider.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This is a retirement community, not a day care. Run this place like a business.

I was an accountant......community relations was not my job.

I worked at Erickson Retirement Communities full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I did a lot of things while I was there and got a lot of great experience. Fun people to work with too.

    Cons

Upper management with overblown egos and low pay

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked for the company before it went bankrupt and was sold at auction, so I can't attest to the conditions now. I would guess that Mr Davis is a much more solid businessman than John Erickson ever was, so I would guess things are better at least in regards the stability of the company.

John Erickson's initial success went to his head, and he overextended the company and made other unsound decisions such as placing his children with no business experience in top management positions and paying his extravagant living expenses out of the corporate pot. Fortunately, I saw what was coming years before a lot of others did, and I got out. So many people lost careers and a lot of money when the company went under.

Speaking of John Erickson, I passed him on the stair one time, said "hello", and he rolled his eyes.

In another example of egotism, one of the executives hired his golf instructor into an entry level professional position. Everyone, and I mean everyone including all the lower and mid-level managers were coming up to him and introducing themselves.

I have been working at Erickson Retirement Communities

    Pros

There are none to report unfortunately despite intentions and despite an attempt to re-grow and re-develop the company as it was in its origin.

    Cons

Upper management completely mismanaging staff, creating undue stress, no one held accountable that should be at upper levels. Employees forced to suffer as if non-compliant to cover up management mistakes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Class action is due. Executives should finally be held accountable.
