I worked at Ericsson-Worldwide as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

    I worked at Ericsson-Worldwide full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Flexi time.
    Overtime pay.
    Dan's tavern across the road.
    Good experience for grads.

    Cons

    Using outdated technology.
Left behind with regards new technology, hard to gain new experience and advance your career.
    Salary not competitive.
    Management not technically competent sometimes.
Constant firefighting and patching of scrappy code instead of rewriting.
I don't know if its because of the canteen food or what, but the toilets always seem to be blocked in the building.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Making us do some pointless process because "that's how it was always done", rather than trying to improve/change the process is not good. Especially when you agree said process is a waste of time and is frustrating.

I have been working at Ericsson-Worldwide full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Very good for graduates to build a few years experience, but move on after that.
    Flexi-time
    Benefits - Doctor, Health insurance

    Cons

    - Very little opportunity for career expansion.
    - Using outdated versions of technologies. Very slow to upgrade to newer versions.
    - Usage of more modern technologies isn't too popular here either.
    - Management hampering software development, many decisions are made without developers consideration. They change decisions constantly also, so you will most likely have to scrap what you did and start again.
    - Ericsson has took their own approach on "agile", which contradicts many of the standard agile practices established today.
    - Very poor salary
    - Very little acknowledgement or recognition of hard work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to developers. Stop inventing processes for the sake of having processes. Follow industry standard that works. Treat employees with respect.

I have been working at Ericsson-Worldwide as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

    - Nice, well-furnished workplace, with a sizeable canteen with a great variety of food.
    - Very friendly, helpful team members; at least from who I have worked with.
    - Excellent opportunities to learn new programming languages and improve upon the ones you already have knowledge of. Courses and lectures pop up regularly and can be attended by almost anyone. Brilliant for students and inexperienced programmers.
    - Very kind, flexible line managers and scrum masters.

    Cons

    - Communication issues with management occur on occasion, which can lead to dissent among some of the employees.
    - Uncompetitive salaries, particularly for co-ops and trainee engineers. If you aren't a senior software engineer, and you have a family, expect to work overtime to keep food on the table.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work on communicating more with your employees. If there is a shift in management, your employees should be informed before rumours begin to spread.

Pay raises should be doled out more frequently and starting salaries should be raised to attract the best talent. The company spends enough money already, yes, but pitching in more cash to get the best programmers and students would be very beneficial for innovation and productivity.
