Pros
Very supportive environment, people truly believe the culture that is promoted in the organization. A lot of resources available and it is possible to learn a lot even as an intern
Cons
Nature of the work was not very appealing to me at the time, very rigid and bureaucratic corporate structure can be an issue to some people
Advice to Senior Management
Try to understand the regional realities of every office as opposed to standardizing every process internationally. There should be an easier access to knowledge and publications across offices
Pros
Work environment is something really enjoyable. Well structured authority structure. Die hard commitment in employee for EY brand name. Work life balance is great.
Cons
Middle management is not very competent where politics is dominant. Shared services salaries are poorly bench marked.
Advice to Senior Management
Bench marking shared services salaries and improving the quality of middle management.
Pros
Invaluable experience for new grads to gain a broad level knowledge and real world experience with some big name clients.
Cons
Based on the large clients EY serves and the high volume of services offered the hours were long and at times overwhelming.
Advice to Senior Management
Be sure to keep many of the employee satisfaction initiatives in place to assist those employees who work very demanding hours throughout the year.
Pros
Great learning organization. Lots of professional development programs like EYU for mentoring and coaching, and EY LEADS for continuing professional education and growth.
Cons
In some service lines, like audit, they experience high employee turnover causing staffing challenges and higher workload. Depending on the office size and client base, this situation can have a great impact.
Advice to Senior Management
I think the firm is doing a good job at assessing their staffing challenges and mindset about increasing their staff base to mitigate this turnover in the near future.
Pros
I think Ernst and Young is an interesting to work for. They have lots of fun events for employees, such as outing, afternoon tea time, thanksgiving turkey sharing, and year end party.
Cons
It's too much pressure working in the big busy season. And most of people work until midnight. There is no work and life balance.
Advice to Senior Management
i dont know what to say about management. they work hard but play hard too, which is the same for all accounting firms
Pros
Ernst & Young has a great culture that fosters talent and wants to see it grow. Managers want you to succeed and do not hold you down from moving up the ladder. It is a very encouraging environment where you can learn new skills and grow a career.
Cons
There are always downsides to working at a large company. Some things are as simple as having to deal with technical support in a different location, while at other times it may be due to a difference in ideology; big vs. small, profit vs. compassion.
Pros
It is a very well respected firm, and people are impressed when you say you work there.
Cons
It is not a 9-5 job. You are expected to work long hours particularly January-March.
Advice to Senior Management
Implementation of overtime bonuses would make busy season less painful; but in my opinion this company has fair compensation packages.
Pros
Good people to work with
Cons
Pay not as good and also performance sometimes not rewarded.
Advice to Senior Management
Need to do more to get junior staff engaged.
Pros
The best reason to work at Ernst and Young is the perception of quality and professional competence that the outside world has of the firm. No matter how real or unreal that perception is, the name looks good on your CV.
Cons
I came across way too many incompetent people in management positions at the firm, which made it really hard to respect the policies and processes that got them there. A substantial number of people were more concerned with playing office politics in order to look good than with doing a good job.
Advice to Senior Management
Learn your craft. You need to be at least competent at it (if not good) to lead your subordinates credibly. Truth is, if you're really good, your performance ought to speak largely for itself; the accolades (from peers, clients and subordinates) ought to follow you relatively easily; you shouldn't need to play office politics as much.
Pros
Brand name
Global presence
Interesting and challenging work
Cons
Incompetent leaders
Leaders do not promote inclusive culture
Leaders display biases
very constrained and confined middle management
Advice to Senior Management
leaderships at the services line and functional group level must adhere to firm's inclusive culture
many partners serving in a non-client service role only promote selective people
Value opposing opinions and create an environment in which poeple can speak freely
