Pros
Great work experience and knowledge growth
Cons
Long work hours can be avioded
Advice to Senior Management
Need to rethink of the strategy and work on various other marketing aspects for the growth of the firm. Need to generate more revenue.
Pros
Job for life, security and location flexibility.
Cons
Management seemed to choose favorite 'pets' regardless of the work performed. Performance rating system was just a scam to get promotions and marks were usually decided well in advance of the work being performed.
No real training provided and the management seemed to bend the rules they enforced to suit themselves.
Lots of empty promises that were never kept, they were very good at making excuses.
Dont take any sick days because its seen as a weakness.
Nepotism is alive and kicking in Ernst and Young.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your staff. Dont tolerate slakers that just suck up and never perform.
Pros
1. Globally recognised brand, reputation
2. Fairly young management
3. International secondment opportunities within the firm (if lucky and play your cards right)
Cons
1. Structural changes: discourages audit trainee intake due to the implementation of recruitment stages which are not on par with other big 4 firms in the country. This leads to departments being fairly understaffed, more junior staff undertaking more challenging roles with not much support and expected to perform at a more senior level timeline.
2. Lack of exam support - significant work pressure lowers morale and lack of exam support (in terms of study leave, internal revision lectures) lead to low exam passing rate.
Advice to Senior Management
1. Structural changes should take into account local market conditions (i.e. other big 4 conditions in terms of study leave, exam support).
2. Take into account the feedback of below management level staff and action them.
3. Improve coaching culture
Pros
EY is a recognised global brand. Always good on a CV
Cons
Relative Size in the Irish market is poor
Advice to Senior Management
Communication needs to be improved significantly
