Pros
Big brand name on CV
Growth is decent with about 5 years to make it to manager level
Compensation is at par with peers (big 4)
Cons
Some departments are very new and there is little to learn
Work is not truly balanced and toggles between being very heavy work load to no work load
Advice to Senior Management
Youre doing a good job, but please have a focused org structure for different divisions. The same structure doesnt work everywhere.
Pros
Open culture, informal - you can walk into the partner's cabin and talk to him any time
They do tend to be pretty flexible about allowing you to switch teams, if you have the tenacity to keep asking for the transfer
Cons
Zero work-life balance, also at times (at least in India) seems like an Old Boys club. Moreover, in spite of trying to build a business advisory practice, they still seem to go at assignments from a accounting angle, and do not consider other out-of-the-box ideas for tackling an engagement
Advice to Senior Management
While I loved the open culture, I also felt restricted at times. EY needs to move away from hiring CAs/CPAs and move more towards hiring people with different kinds of experience. Also, the employees need to deepen industry knowledge.
Pros
Flexible organisation and competitive salaries
Cons
Your personal experience will depend upon the team you are part of and the partner heading it. Lots of politics.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop working in silos.
Pros
Excellent knowledge sharing sessions, rigorous quality checks, attention to detail, perfection and quality in every deliverable sent to the client, supportive and helpful peers
Cons
Analysts are generally hired off campuses and they are not taken on the payroll of the company. This means that professional tax is deducted from your salary every month and unless you have investments, a considerable income is deducted as income tax. Moreover, if you are not an MBA or do not have any post-graduate degree, they do not consider you for the role of a Consultant. Analysts are also not eligible for other benefits like food coupons.
Advice to Senior Management
Management should take new hires from campuses on the payroll of the company and they should also be entitled for other benefits such as food coupons etc.
Pros
People here are smart and in order to survive here, one needs to be smart. This is a great place to boost one's soft skills. Regular trainings are provided for enhancement of technical as well as soft skills.
Cons
People here are too smart. Its hard to find someone who is actually supportive without any personal interest. Narrow business mind. Innovation is not appreciated here.
Advice to Senior Management
first and foremost, people sitting in the top management need to realise that more responsible a person is, more dedicated he gets towards the work. Please appreciate new ideas.
Pros
Brand name
Wide industry experience working with leading companies
Opportunities to work on international projects
Great launchpad for a business career, even if you're not an accountant
Cons
Internal initiatives around employee welfare, work life balance, ethics can seem like lip service
Terrible work life balance unless you really really fight for your time off
Pay was lower than for peers at KPMG
Advice to Senior Management
Take your commitments to EY initiatives seriously - live the one firm concept, there shouldn't be such disparity between the way teams function in different offices!
Pros
Big Brand
Good industry exposure
Growth oriented
On the job training
Pays better than the rest of its competitors
Looks good on your CV
Cons
Negligible work life balance
At times picks up less experienced people and sets very high expectations
Less of tangible learning (especially for technology guys)
More oriented towards people and process management
Advice to Senior Management
Should give some breathing time for the newly appointed
Pros
E&Y Mumbai has a lot of high and positive energy. I learned a lot during my time there.
Cons
Everyone works at their own time. This makes life harder for the people at the lower end and their hours are extended for no reason.
Advice to Senior Management
You should try to satisfy employees better.
Pros
Fast career progression if you can win new clients and do sales well
Cons
Very aggresive firm culture
You need to have a thick skin to deal with some of the people around you
You need to be an aggresive deal maker and sales person to progress
Advice to Senior Management
Take it easy
Pros
Professional environment, talented co-workers, good growth opportunities.
Cons
Work life balance - main concern
Advice to Senior Management
Global transfers not encouraged
