    I worked at Escapia

    Pros

The folks at Escapia have a great vision of transforming the Vacation Rental industry. Part of their vision was recruiting some top notch people with some great ideas on how to bring unity to a dispirit industry. I appreciated the excellent support staff and caliber of hires.

    Cons

One of the main downsides of working at Escapia was the continual scrabble for the company to secure funding. This often interrupted software development and was the source of some big ideas that never came to fruition. The continual change of the vision/practice made compensation packages smaller that they appeared to be at the offset.

Software as a Service for a Multi-Billion Dollar Segment of the Travel Industry

I have been working at Escapia

    Pros

Very interesting category -- it's the place where vacation rentals (ski condos, beachfront homes, etc.) and web-based technology converge. Seattle is a good place to work, and the offices are right downtown. The company is focused on a well-defined and important segment of the travel industry that is currently under-serving consumers. The team is very talented and the product is solid. Software as a Service (SAAS), Web 2.0 / Web 3.0, ASP.NET, C#, and mission-critical application design are rewarding topics from a technical standpoint. Yet the category includes beautiful homes in Hawaii, Italy, Florida and elsewhere. Overall, a pretty fun and engaging place to work.

    Cons

Startup life is demanding and always full of risk. We sell a mission-critical application into property managers, and, while it's the leading solution in the category, adopting the system has a longer life-cycle than, say, selling a consumer application. Perseverance is critical, but I'm confident we've got the best solution. Seattle traffic is somewhat tough as are real-estate prices. And yes, if you love constant sunshine you'd probably better look to another city. But in return for some rain, you get lungs full of fresh air, mountains, lake, and San Juan Islands very close by, and some of the best coffee you'll find anywhere.
