Pros
Our manager was willing to teach us about how to do better and just about work life in general. Our store wasn't too successful, but she was encouraging and helpful. She was really supportive of us as people, not just employees as well.
Cons
Our store catered to people who were only looking to buy discounted items, which was really discouraging at the end of the day when we were looking at our numbers. It was hard to gain really good experience with selling because of our customer base.
Advice to Senior Management
Realize that at least some of us are there to learn and gain experience as well as support the bottom line. Help us grow as well as critique us.
Pros
There's base plus a small commission
Cons
stressful and associates can get very catty with one another
Pros
If you like the clothes it would be a great place to work. It had a pretty good employee discount and had a very busy environment.
Cons
It is very tiring, and the management doesn't treat you as you should be treated. It was a little scary to be honest. Customers are also very impolite.
Advice to Senior Management
Treat you employees with more respect to have a better job. Have a better employee facility instead of a backroom with dust and a ladder for a chair.
Pros
Great Associate Discount for all Employees
Cons
Not a healthy working environment. I blame on the present leadership.
Advice to Senior Management
All Senior Management needs to learn how to treat their employees in NYC corporate office/stores. Its evident in the business results. All relative. m sure this company will pull out of the US very soon.
Pros
Good casual rates
Shift Flexibility
Easy tasks
Gain good experience
Very Reputable Company
Good Employee Incentives( Discounts, Commission on high sales)
Cons
Constantly changing management
Bad communication between smaller staff and anyone in head office
I felt that casual employees were not values at all
They are budget orientated and will cut shifts without thought about individual workers
Advice to Senior Management
To carefully look at the management you have in the store and to see how they make their casual staff appreciated in all their hard work
Pros
Good incentives
Annual Salary is ok
Good staff discounts on merchandise
Good to have on your Resume as they are a Global company
Sponsor your Visa
Cons
They expect you to work major over time and you are not compensated for it. They have major salary budget cut backs which is difficult to complete tasks - hence why they expect you to work over time in your own time to save on salary costs. A typical 38 hour week can turn in to a 50 hour week. The management team is more focused on the $ more so then on their workers. Main managers of the business have too much responsibilities that they neglect who actually are the poor performers in their business. Esprit has the highest staff turnover as a lot of people are worked until they are stressed.
Advice to Senior Management
A reflection on all your current store managers is in need. Also your Area Managers need to focus on their people skills and better their judgement on situations. A lot of people can talk the talk but not walk the walk. I had to leave due to a Manager being so unorganised and was over covering up their mistakes. This i have witnessed in a lot of the stores.
Pros
Good place to learn the steps of customer service and balancing cash. This later contributes to other jobs which require a backbone in such areas.
Cons
No room for review or advancement. Once you join Esprit, the chances of promotion is slim as a sales associate.
Advice to Senior Management
Have a more fair distribution of hours and reasonable reviews so that employees feel more in touch. Some managers are great people, but some could do better.
Pros
Esprit is a great company to work for in terms of it's global prescence, and there is opportunity to work with people from all over the world. The work/corporate enviornement varies from place to place, and depending what department you work in. They have a better then average PTO allowance. If you work in a smaller offfice (not HQ in Germany), there is a huge opportunity to grow professionally, and have expoure to all cross functional areas. In this situation, you also have more of a voice and are truly invloved in decision making, as opposed to huge corprate offices, where you may just me a number.
Cons
Can only speak for the office/department I worked in. That being said, there was defintely a lack of recognition and employee moral. There were also major communication issues, some on purpose and some because of lack of experience.
Advice to Senior Management
There needs to be more consistency in strategy and better communication. Please also recognize employee's hard work and effort, not just their areas of improvement.
