I have been working at Eurofins Air Toxics full-time

    Pros

There are good people in the lab who care about doing a good job. Onsite management does a good job of showing appreciation for a job well done.

    Cons

The lab is greatly understaffed and group morale and data quality are beginning to suffer as a result. New testing platforms have been introduced and more instruments are in production, but the number of people in the lab is smaller than before. And the workload was heavy before!

    Advice to Management

Several more people are needed in the lab.

    Pros

Laboratory analysts are smart and know their stuff

    Cons

Management sucks, expect to work overtime even if you really don't want to. They try to get you suckered into a "team" environment but that's just because you feel bad for your co-workers. Expect fudging of data when it comes to money.

    Advice to Management

Learn to treat employees better. Don't act like a coward and tell your higher bosses when something is impossible.

  3. Only work here for a year if you need experience and you just graduated or have little experience.

I worked at Eurofins Air Toxics full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You will learn a lot about a production laboratory. You will learn quality assurance, sample integrity, chain of custodies, audits, data review and data reporting. In one year, you will learn everything you need to know to make yourself a strong competitor as a chemist.

    Cons

Once you get your one year experience, get out! It’s not worth the stress and dealing with the incompetent management to stay longer. As a former employee, I have seen a lot. I suffered through a couple of years with them and seen the company go from being a decent place to a place from HELL. The employee turnover is very high. Management turnover is also pretty high. They fired all the good people that made the place worth working at. Unless you are buddies with the right upper management personnel, your job is not safe and there is a risk of losing your job. Management works their employees hard. Pay is not fair. Management is more interested in meeting their monthly revenue than anything else. They will put pressure on even entry level analysts to get as much work done as soon as possible to get the monthly revenue amount. Management is also willing to compromise data quality (i.e. write a narrative down justifying the crappy QC results) if it means that they will be able to report the data to the client on time. If you report on time, they get paid the full amount. Late data = less pay for the company. Getting a promotion is rare and the pay isn't fair to the extra work you will be given. If management makes an error, they will figure out a way to blame you, the analyst, when in reality its managements' fault that mismanaged or made a bad decision on something. Stand up for yourself, and they will work you really hard until you screw up which may give them a good enough reason to fire you. They use this tactic because they have been sued in the recent past for firing people without just cause. So now they do what it takes to allow them to fire people legally so they have a solid case. Again, don’t stay longer than you have to!!

    Advice to Management

Wake up! You can't treat people like this! You need to work on the floor once in a while to understand what is going on. You are very much out of touch and don't understand the real impact you are doing to the lab and your employees. OH! And how about not accepting samples from clients without considering the impact that it will do to certain sections/instruments. Money is not the only thing that matters. Understand the limitations the lab has and not promise the clients the sun and the moon. The analysts are the ones that clean up your mistakes so that we meet the clients requirements, no matter how stupid it is.

I have been working at Eurofins Air Toxics full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

None; they have a good benefits package but it's not worth working here! Upper management just cares about numbers and doesn't care about their employees.

    Cons

Too many hours with little pay. Upper management is clueless on how to make things better. They talk about work/life balance but they don't mean it. They want to make their numbers and run you into the ground. Avoid this place like the plague! I'm finding something else!

    Advice to Management

Improve morale! Don't work your employees into the ground.

    Pros

Rank and file employees are generally friendly and helpful. Everyone seems to band together in the face of adversity, aka upper management

    Cons

Some members of the management team (although in fairness, not all) are completely incompetent. They have no idea of teamwork, people skills, time management, or mentoring. Verbal and emotional abuse reign supreme.

    Advice to Management

Soft skills are just as important as hard skills, especially for management. Anyone who has worked for even a decently run company and then come to work at Air Toxics will immediately see that this is not a place you want to be for any considerable amount of time.

I have been working at Eurofins Air Toxics full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The people in the lab care about the quality of their work, and take pride in what they do. Air Toxics was purchased by Eurofins, and Linda Freeman has stepped down - making the environment much less hostile and more stable. Much of the fear of losing your job has diminished. Management is making an obvious effort to improve the morale and work environment.

    Cons

The Eurofins corporate people that have come in seem to be focused on numbers and dollars, and have paid little to no attention to the staff in the lab. The end of month push to make money is still happening and stressful. The people in the lab making important decisions all have a chemist background and not business background, and it appears they do not know how to improve the bottom line without asking people to take on more work. The lab is understaffed, and quality does suffer from it.

    Advice to Management

The people in the lab should come first - they are expensive to train, and are hard to replace.

I worked at Eurofins Air Toxics full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It is a good place to get some experience on a short term basis. I was happy with my wage. I liked mostly everyone there.

    Cons

Stress takes on a whole different meaning when working here. There is no pat on the back or thank you from management for accomplishing what seemed impossible. There is an unequal division of work. Management has lost touch with how much time it takes to follow standard operating procedures and they have no regard for the balance of work and family/ home life. The stress was not worth what it did to my health.

    Advice to Management

Get back in touch by working in the lab. Roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty. Stop using fear to manage your employees. Care.

poorly run company, no idea how to be more profitable except to make people work harder. not open to modifying the way things are done to become more efficient.

    Pros

Always something to learn no matter where you work. Some additional skills to add to the resume. You'll know what it's like to work in a poorly functioning environment here and know what to look out for next time.

    Cons

It's going to sound repetitive after reading the other reviews but the poor management and decision making by the CEO and Sales Manager have cost many people their jobs. It once was a well functioning company with steady growth. Expected to work long hours with no compensation for overtime and weekends (exempt) on a meager salary. It doesn't add up. Very understaffed lab and overstaffed management. It is a noisy and dirty lab that gets a "quick cleaning" when an audit is about to happen. Rapid and constant turnover in personnel.

    Advice to Management

Management won't listen to advice or feedback. One person (CEO) in the entire company makes all the (uninformed) decisions and they all go through that route.

    Pros

Just enough experience using the instrumentation to find another lab to hire me.

    Cons

Over worked, under payed. Basically a sweat shop. It really feels like management does not have a plan and shoots from the hip every day. The place is noisy, dusty and dirty and feels very uncomfortable. It's very chaotic. No one smiles!

    Advice to Management

The owner (CEO) needs to go get some up-to-date present time experience in the real world of running a company. It's not 1985 anymore! Treating your employees like they are chldren instead of professionals make for a very unhappy workplace. I'm acutally trying to be nice here.....
