Not a place you want to work if you have morals

Admissions (Former Employee)
Merrillville, IN

I worked at Everest College full-time for more than 3 years

ProsMy co-workers (some) were excellent. I miss them a lot.

ConsEverything about that organization. I would not recommend to work there if you want growth. They are not providing to the students what they claim to do in their mission statement.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop hiring sales people with no education that came from best buy as a sales rep.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Make this your last choice

Instructor (Former Employee)
San Bernardino, CA

I worked at Everest College part-time for more than a year

ProsLearning experience, working with all types, can transfer to other locations

ConsThey always make sure your hours are part-time so they do not have to pay benefits, very disorganized, most teachers are unqualified, must pass students even if they are failing as you must keep your numbers up... Very unprofessional.

Advice to Senior ManagementIt should be about the education, not the numbers!!

Top Campus Leadership has extremely poor management skills

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Aurora, CO

I have been working at Everest College full-time for more than 5 years

ProsFriendly co-workers, free parking, conveniently located to freeway

ConsVery poor management skills by top campus leadership personnel. Inconsistency, lack of support and job security regardless of role on campus.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus should be on the education of students and not on inappropriate jokes, videos and discriminatory comments. Given the level of education, top leaders should act more responsibly. I am looking for other employment, as are many others. This was a good place to work 6 years ago, but not today.

Not for everybody

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Everest College full-time for less than a year

ProsLaid back environment, no pressure to meet goals (since still new)

ConsConvincing people you're changing their lives, looking for specific types of students--low income, minority, etc.

Highly stressful environment, filled with job uncertainties.

Director of Education (Former Employee)
Newport News, VA

I worked at Everest College full-time for more than 5 years

ProsDedicated education staff, that generally go to extremes to support students.

ConsNumbers driven senior leadership, that has little concern for or value in hard working education staff.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop punishing instructors for not being able to retain students that "you" would not be able to retain and should have never been enrolled [homeless, illiterate, psychological and behavioral disorders]. Most instructors are not trained to be able to handle these types of students...

The focus is on the sales force, other employees are incidental and irrelevant

Finance (Former Employee)

I worked at Everest College full-time

ProsNice environment, very visually appealing. Technology was up to date. Benefits were phenomenal when I worked there, but given the decline of the proprietary education business, I expect this is not the case any longer.

ConsThe company's sole focus is on getting students enrolled. The sales force is structured to offer numerous promotions, raises throughout the year, recognition, awards, trips, etc. Other employees are not treated equally. Raises to non-sales employees are annually, if at all and the raises are small. The company is mired in middle management. I spent half of my work day on conference calls or going through redundant emails from middle management that, 9 times out of 10, were something they just forwarded from corporate.

The career education industry is in decline. Enrollments suffer at these schools and many of them have gone through restructuring and lay-offs to stay in the game. Additionally, the Dept. of Education continues to pass legislation that makes it difficult for career schools to maintain eligibility. I would caution anyone looking for long term stability against a career start here.

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat all employees equally and work towards efficiency and equality.
