    Pros

The atmosphere was the best thing about working at Excel; the mid-level managers were friendly, supportive, helpful, and went to bat regularly and effectively for their staff. The company did RRSP matching from 75%-200% based on tenure, and gave gifts to their employees for employment milestones. Coffee was provided, and hours were incredibly flexible.

    Cons

Management was a little set in their ways, and highly risk averse, meaning that things didn't change often. Advancement was difficult; in such a small company, there was not really anywhere to go except sideways, particularly with their high retention of longterm employees and tendency for certain managers to have "favourites". Internal political issues and conflicts were solved by pretending they didn't exist, although these were rare, and minor, at worst.

    Advice to Management

Recognize dissatisfaction and take steps to deal with it instead of brushing it under the carpet; denying that a problem exists tends to simply make things worse. Be more willing to experiment with new ideas.

    Pros

Extended health, dental, and vision coverage; RRSP matching, starting at 75% and maxing at 200%. Annual bonus. Small family-oriented company with good communication between all sections of company.

    Cons

Salary is on the low end of similar jobs at bigger companies. Management is having a hard time keeping up with the company growth, in terms of mgmt style.

    Advice to Management

The company seems to be outgrowing the current management policies. Constant negativity in certain aspects is not a good motivational tool.
