I have been working at Excela Health as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Exposure to a variety of projects. Opportunity to engage in meaningful work.

    Cons

Company administration could benefit from more innovation and adopt best practices set by peers. Distance from a large city could be a factor in this.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create more administrative positions and build larger administrative teams. I was hoping that my internship would have been able to turn into a full-time experience. Nonetheless, I am grateful for the time I spent at Excela Health.

I have been working at Excela Health full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Fantastic people to work along side of. Nice benefit package. Community focused care and involvment within the communities that are serviced. People really care about patients and co-workers.

    Cons

As all companies, we can strive to do better with communications.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consistency and communications. This has improved, but we still have work to do. Changing culture is a very difficult task but we are achieving a more effective, patient centered care culture.

I worked at Excela Health as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Great staff who are dedicated to providing excellent healthcare to the communities served by the organization. Management is responsive to the changing healthcare landscape.

    Cons

Old cultural norms are hard to shake. Continual (but necessary) changes within the organization are impacting morale.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to listen to employees at all levels. Recognize that the pace that must be kept to address changes in reimbursements and healthcare delivery is alarming to many employees.

I have been working at Excela Health

    Pros

Friendly co-workers, training, salary and benefits

    Cons

Concerns about my current position being eliminated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognitiion when employees are doing a good job would create an even more positive atmosphere. Employees need to hear when they are doing a good job, as well as when there may have been mistakes made.

    Pros

Awesome people to work with. Decent benefits. Fun workplace. Good training and opportunities for advancement.

    Cons

Management was sketchy some times... Took a while to get schedules out. Upper Management took a while to get back to you on things.

I have been working at Excela Health full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

I appreciated the benefits. The hospitalization, dental and vision benefits were very good. They are very generous and covered family and spouse. Paid time off was also very generous.

    Cons

A lot of politics. Who you know is important when working there. Difficult to make improvements at times. Easy to identify problems, not so easy to correct them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow staff to covey problems. Management look the other way or don't want to acknowledge there are problems in their areas.

I have been working at Excela Health as an intern

    Pros

The department I worked in was very flexible regarding how the work was completed. It was a very positive atmosphere and very open to hearing new ideas.

    Cons

Sometimes there was a lull in the amount of work, but other than that I can say it was a great experience.

I worked at Excela Health full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great staff who generally want to do the right thing.

    Cons

Staff are not supported by managers, managers are not supported by directors/V.P.s and senior leadership. Huge communication gap at these levels. Lots of lip service from leadership but no action to support these words. Old style management. They make all decisions and then tell you what to do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Plain and simple.....walk the talk! They need to go out and see what is happening in the ranks and show the staff that they are interested and supportive of what they are doing. Instead, they appear disengaged.
