Love it.

Senior Scientist (Current Employee)
South San Francisco, CA

I have been working at Exelixis

ProsThe work is fast-paced and very interesting. My colleagues treat me and each other with respect. Competence rules, with little or no deadwood. Senior management has my full trust and respect. I believe they are doing a great job of moving the company forward and that we will ultimately be successful with multiple compounds. Benefits are excellent, with lots of support for work/life balance. Just a great place.

ConsThe company is still pre-commercial; there is no revenue stream other than that from partners. Despite the relatively large pipeline, the company could still fail if multiple trials go badly or much too slowly.

Advice to Senior ManagementGo faster! I know its not realistic given how fast we move already, but everyone wants to see our compounds move through the clinic as quickly as possible.

Transformative Period

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Exelixis

ProsCompany has a drug Cabozantinib in Phase III trials that could potentially be a blockbuster.
People are very friendly and easy to work with.

ConsThis has been a transformative period for the company with massive layoffs, especially in Research. This has lead to low morale.
Could be further layoffs in the future, depending on company priorities.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to recognize the existing employees using the excellence awards to improve employee morale.

The company has a lot of nice people to work with, only if they recieve better and clearer directions;

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Exelixis

Prosthe company has a lot of nice coworkers to work with;
Some promising projects;
small company envirenment;
comparable compansations and benefit;

Consunclear direction from upper management;
some employees were not hired for the right experties;
Minimun or limited communication from upper management;

Advice to Senior ManagementThe upper management should understand the important of hiring the right experties for the right position;
The company is on such a tight budget, wasting time and resource to train people on the job is not the best practice right now; probably in the future, when the company is in better position.

A good place to work as long as you hustle...

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Exelixis

Pros- fast-paced decision making; little of the glacial pharma approach
- emphasis on "critical path" goals
- generally good colleagues
- opportunities to learn

Cons- expected pace of work and of timetable for deliverables is kind of ridiculous sometimes
- sometimes projects come (and go) without clear reasons why (at least not clear to the little people)
- definitely NOT a nurturing/"we care about the little people" kind of place

Advice to Senior ManagementCommunicate important company news and goals more often, more clearly. Show that you care about your employees as people rather than as cogs.
