I have been working at Exinda full-time

    Pros

    From an engineering perspective:
    Excellent employees
    Exceptional learning opportunities
The product has great potential and it finally seems to be edging towards the right path

    Cons

    From an Engineering perspective:

Management keeps on changing the business focus at least twice every year. This unstable behavior also affects their employees which are asked to change priorities affecting the performance of the final product.

    Pros

    - The company allows their sales people to work remotely

    Cons

I would not recommend to work here
    - The company does layoffs every other quarter
    - The company offered health benefits as part of the hire on package however held back health insurance because they could not afford employee payroll

Small startup with multitude of issues and C level executives who have no idea what they are doing.

I worked at Exinda full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Technology is OK considering the price point
    - Some good people, especially the ones that came from previous technology companies

    Cons

    - CEO changed his mind on a whim and chased a new "idea" every other week
    - CFO lied through his teeth about the financial situation. There were two massive RIFS at Exinda in the two+ years I was there. This was immediately following the CFO expressing how solid the company's financial footing was
    - All of the know how that was based in the main development office in Australia is gone due to the closing of the office
    - Major product issues being disguised with cosmetic fixes
    - They are desperately trying to sell the company and it shows

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - The venture capitalists financing this company should take a closer look at the CEO and CFO and replace them. They are way in over their heads and do everything possible to hide what's really happening. One of the worst work environments, if not the worst, I have ever worked at. The market is well aware of the condition Exinda is at and of their desperation to sell.

    Pros

Good atmosphere of really good developers and support staff. Good managers who care to make a good product. CEO is good at sales and leads by trying to communicate and promote vision. Developers want to fix the problems at the source, not slap a band aid on the issue. Lots of training and communication.

    Cons

The VP and director levels want to do everything and organize everything to suit what makes them look best. Rewards a culture of send emails at 9:00 at night to show they are working. Relatively high turnover of developers because the support is lacking. During retrospectives in agile got told how poorly group was performing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sales are important, fixing software issues is important, making the customers happy is key. Honest communication requires an environment where people can say what they need to say, not toe the party line.

    I worked at Exinda

    Pros

There is a lot of opportunity here. If you want to expand your functional experience and/or try something new, this is a great place to be. I worked in Product Management, Marketing and Business Development in my two years at Exinda, and was able to create a job based on what I wanted to do.

Competitive compensation (in an affordable area)
Lots of opportunity to try new things
Senior management open to new ideas
Great work-life balance - flexible working hours and locations
Own projects end to end, see the results through to the end

    Cons

If you're looking for a highly structured work environment, you should consider working for the government instead of Exinda. Not everyone I worked with was a good fit for a small, nimble organization where you're often asked to perform different types of roles. The volume and diversity of work is not for everyone.

    Highly competitive product category
    Flat growth market growth
Smaller company - workload can be high if you don't prioritize
"Nimble" can also mean a lot of change
It's only acceptable to drink beer on Friday afternoons :)

I worked at Exinda full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

A lot of smart and friendly people.
Some interesting work and a cool product.
    Great dental / medical benefits.
Nerf gun battles and Beer Fridays.

    Cons

    Poor vacation policy.
    No group RRSP.
    Daily changing priorities.
Too much work and not enough people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop trying to do everything yourself and hire people (experts) to do the work.

    I worked at Exinda full-time

    Pros

Was a fantastic company when I first joined, smart people, great culture, interesting technology. Then the original founders left and it all went to hell.

    Cons

Towards the end, senior management of the company was a disgrace. There appeared to be lots of dumb, rushed decisions. Seemed to chase new ideas every week with no solid direction. Too many people with C-level and VP titles relative to the size of the company.

    Other noteworthy points:

    - Staff cuts every 6-12 months.
    - An obvious drop in product quality (the main dev team was moved from Australia to Canada, lots of good talent and IP was lost).
    - The CEO is just a glorified sales guy, not a leader.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Don't lie to your employees.
    - The company values were a joke, no one ever took them seriously because senior management never led by example. The value "meritocracy" should be replaced by "mediocrity" - this better reflects the current senior management team.
    - Don't appear so desperate to sell the company.
    - VCs should think seriously about the quality of the current management team.

    Pros

    - A healthy pay structure
    - Good work environment - Management tries to provide tools/materials to help the employees succeed

    Cons

They seem to go through a form of "restructuring" each quarter (It shows poor direction)
