I have been working at Exp full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

+ Company acquires big, interesting projects
+ Tasks are pretty well delegated and spread among employees
+ Great management style if you like to work independently and can actively ask for guidance when needed
+ Work fluctuates seasonally, so you may have busy quick-fire weeks where you're working dense 9-10 hr days and even weekends, and then you could have several weeks of down time to recoup and even spend time learning new skills
+ Flexible work day opportunities -- 7-3 some days, 9-5 other days, with overtime interspersed -- This is an international company, so someone is up and working somewhere any time of the day.
+ Good amount of Personal Time Off (PTO) offered. exp has done away with "sick days" and considers it all PTO
+ Small amount of 401k matching
+ People are generally easy to talk to here -- feel free to ask advice on how to go about completing a task if you're not sure

    Cons

    - Management style is pretty hands-off, so if you're uncomfortable asking your own questions and not being offered guidance this particular management style may be grating to your nerves
    - Deadlines can pop up seemingly out of nowhere (from a non-manager perspective) and pretty large deliverables need to be out-the-door the next day or two (This occurs at an acceptable amount at this time though.)
    - This is a consulting firm, so exp is running on 'client time', and may not necessarily offer the accurate/best amount of time to get a task done

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing a great job of trusting your employees to do their best job and not falling for the trap of micro-managing :)

Open up the discussion of negotiating deadlines with employees. Though, I know this can be a fine line of taking up people's time with unnecessary meetings, and finding the best amount of time to get a task done efficiently and accurately.

I have been working at Exp full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

exp Federal has capitalized on the best parts of being a newer, small organization with plenty of flexibility, opportunity and growth yet has retained access to the benefits, leverage, and resources of it's larger parent company. The (often cliched) startup attitude is present and it's exciting. Very professional workplace.

    Cons

The standards and practices are still being refined from the former legacy so there can be some confusion. Less oversight and lack of structure can be hard on some people, others thrive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Excellent work so far, scalability will be the key going forward.

I have been working at Exp

    Pros

Good people in Houston office at a great location. Co-workers who are passionate and knowledgeable; enjoy the experience. Corporate has overall great benefits.

    Cons

    Where to start...
No regard for corporate structure. If you have an opinion, leave it at the door. Way too many turn-over for a small company; either you run or you get run out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management at the corporate level and HR need to take a look at what goes on at this company. Take a look at how many qualified people who have left in the past 13 months. Business outlook for the next 6 months I marked as getting worse, only if no changes are made. This company has potential to be a great company.

I have been working at Exp full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

-Work with a great group of people.
    -Jobs are challenging and interesting.
-Technology wise they try to stay current.
-Multiple offices, so opportunity to transfer between offices.

    Cons

-The company runs lean. While this is not a bad thing, expect to live at the office if there are major deadlines.
    -No bonuses.
-If you are salaried....be ready to work extra hours and not get paid for it.
-Company is very disorganized with all the mergers. Management is out of touch with what goes on day-to-day.
-Not much of an opportunity for advancement. Management has tracks set up, but there is little support.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Get more in touch with the pulse of the company.
-Recognize and pay attention to other areas besides the corporate office in Canada. The US services is very large.

I worked at Exp full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

You can maintain a work/life balance if you are okay doing mediocre work and remain steadfast in going home at decent times. Can try to take off early on Fridays, but that usually doesn't happen due to poor project management and unforeseen deadlines. The people are nice and pleasant enough. Health benefits are okay, but not stellar. The company doesn't have a strong focus, so the projects are quite varied.

    Cons

There is no management of people and no growth opportunities. Management is focused on dollars and cents, not the people. Therefore, there is significant turnover. Projects are never executed well, nor is management even trying to improve. They actually do not seem to care about the poor quality of work or stress caused by needlessly staying in the office late to meet last minute deadlines. The company also does not cover things like parking costs at the office or food when traveling. The gray cube environment is sufficating.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    1) Start investing in your employees if you expect long term loyalty
    2) Recognize good work with bonuses or another method of award
    3) Do not do the same thing over and over again while expecting different/improved results
    4) Improve/update the office environment
