    Pros

The company secures large, interesting contracts so there is always something exciting going on. Management trusts you to get your work done on your own without needless supervision. IT resources are top-notch. Very professional company.

    Cons

Pay and benefits are average at best. You get the feeling that senior management has no idea what the day-to-day of their employees is like.

    Advice to Management

Ask for employee feedback and get their honest opinions.

    Pros

I had a great manager and I work with an excellent group of people. Parking is free and lots of growth within the company (based on my feeling only). Others may feel different.

    Cons

    - Have a period where work does slow down
-There are not many minorities working for the company and everyone is not treated equally.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. (No employees should feel uneasy if she or he speak up about any issues within the company) Everyone should be treated fairly within the company.

    Pros

The IT team are extremely helpful. I made great connections and was able to handle every technical issue in our boston office through the good folks in Florida.

    Cons

The company merged and the Boston office went from 20 people to 3 in less than 2 years.

    Pros

Its a small office so most people are easy going.

    Cons

Not much room for advancement and raises are hard to get. Most management has been here too long to think of innovative ways to fix problems within the company.

    Pros

The managers I’ve worked with have a hands-off approach. Self-reliant people are rewarded and stay on board, others don’t.
By and large, people are friendly and helpful.
There’s a wide variety of assignments. The company has engineers working in many different disciplines – electrical, architectural, civil, etc.

    Cons

Training is not provided, and new employee guidance is very limited. There are support teams but they are stretched very thin. Staff are on their own and expected to answer each others’ questions.
The work/life balance needs improvement. 50 to 60 hour work weeks are common. Overtime is not allowed. Some tasks must be done in the evening to avoid disrupting production work. Management’s answer is to have staff come in late or leave early to compensate, but that’s not realistic; the work keeps piling up.

    Advice to Management

Take time to write clear instructions for things. Find out the most common questions employees have, and answer them. Spend a little less effort on brand promotion and internal marketing, and provide help with work/life balance.

    Pros

    Flex work schedule

    Pay is pretty good

    Cons

Management is AWFUL! Turn over is high because there is NO mentoring or guideness in what to do. Business is going down because the lack of quality in work since no one is teaching entry level engineers what to do. Work loads can be slow for months. No work to do but keep hiring new people.

    Advice to Management

Bring in some new managers or watch this company go down in flames.

    Pros

Company works on many large and complex commercial projects within its Buildings Markets. These types of projects are not typically available at smaller firms

    Cons

Company is owned by a larger parent company that lacks vision and direction and ultimately that trickles down to the Buildings segment. Pay is not competitive and corporate culture is lacking greatly.

    Advice to Management

Create and then effectively communicate a strategy for the organization and do so in a manner that employees can see the tangible affects of their efforts towards the growth of the company.

    Pros

+ Company acquires big, interesting projects
+ Tasks are pretty well delegated and spread among employees
+ Great management style if you like to work independently and can actively ask for guidance when needed
+ Work fluctuates seasonally, so you may have busy quick-fire weeks where you're working dense 9-10 hr days and even weekends, and then you could have several weeks of down time to recoup and even spend time learning new skills
+ Flexible work day opportunities -- 7-3 some days, 9-5 other days, with overtime interspersed -- This is an international company, so someone is up and working somewhere any time of the day.
+ Good amount of Personal Time Off (PTO) offered. exp has done away with "sick days" and considers it all PTO
+ Small amount of 401k matching
+ People are generally easy to talk to here -- feel free to ask advice on how to go about completing a task if you're not sure

    Cons

    - Management style is pretty hands-off, so if you're uncomfortable asking your own questions and not being offered guidance this particular management style may be grating to your nerves
    - Deadlines can pop up seemingly out of nowhere (from a non-manager perspective) and pretty large deliverables need to be out-the-door the next day or two (This occurs at an acceptable amount at this time though.)
    - This is a consulting firm, so exp is running on 'client time', and may not necessarily offer the accurate/best amount of time to get a task done

    Advice to Management

Keep doing a great job of trusting your employees to do their best job and not falling for the trap of micro-managing :)

Open up the discussion of negotiating deadlines with employees. Though, I know this can be a fine line of taking up people's time with unnecessary meetings, and finding the best amount of time to get a task done efficiently and accurately.
