Pros
The benefits are really fair.
Cons
You can never get a straight answer from Management or HR. You will only get promoted if you are well liked by your management team regardless of performance or competence of the job. TOO MUCH GOSSIP and backstabbing. Hate to say it , but I personally think there are too many women in management there to be able to get a grip on the GOSSIP. In my experiences I found that management (including HR) are the main ones that are generating rumors and keep tension in the different departments instead of trying to get teams to work together.
The compensation is minimal. One year I got my review and could only get one mark higher than I received and got a .36 cents raise!!!!
Way to pay Expedia....remember you get what you pay for, and the employess show that on a daily basis.
Also most of their support sevices are outsourced to different companies.....
SUPPORT AMERICA THAT SUPPORTS YOUR REVENUE!!!!
Advice to Senior Management
Promote people from within based on performance and competence, not from who is liked and who is not by management, or what schedule they can fill in for.
Pros
There are smart people there. Unfortunately, they're not the ones making the big decisions. The copmany culture is fine -- pleasant place to work, etc.
Cons
They don't have a clear sense of who they are. They've bought companies they compete with, and still compete with them years later (like Hotels.com).
Advice to Senior Management
Get behind a single brand, and do one thing very well. Shut down call centers in El Salvador and Philippines, and shift to US and UK.
Pros
great people, good business. Provides good learning opportunities. The Compensation is okay. Work life is pretty good for most teams.
Cons
Like other companies I heard of, I feel moving up within the company is not easy. A lot depends on things other than your performance.
Advice to Senior Management
Expedia should focus on making the internal review process more transparent. The review process should accurately the identify the real performers
Pros
Nice product: you get to send people on holiday
Generally competent colleagues
International team
Cons
Tortuous organisation structure: impossible to get decisions made
Lack of clear strategy. Lots of vision, but no clarity about what not to do.
Weak tech, and weak understanding of tech amongst leadership team.
Advice to Senior Management
Make some clear decisions about what's not going to be done.
Put in place an organisation structure that expedites (!) decision making: make the flow from customer requirements to change far slicker.
Hire leadership who understand tech.
Pros
There is a casual environment designed to foster fun...if you have get the time to step away from the hours of conference calls.
Cons
More responsibility with no pay increase for years. In addition, inconsistent pay practices and policies. The HR department is a joke and air dirty laundry and confidential information as if it were coffee chat. People waste money at the company like nothing, but if you want to do something nice for your team, good luck getting the resources or funds.
Advice to Senior Management
Look in the mirror....are you who you say you are? Do you walk the walk? Take time to see what you are doing to your business.
Pros
nice building, nice location, good benefit package and vacation. Nice people.
Cons
Management team don't know how to appreciate people's hard work.
Advice to Senior Management
appreciate your people, respect your people, empower your people
Pros
They care about you as a person, and the more you put in the more you get out of it. You are expected to work and perform, but they make sure you are taken care of. If they ask you to work late, or come in early, or work on a day off, they make sure its worth it to you. You will be fed and compensated well.
Cons
There is some micro-management that has an effect on moral.
Advice to Senior Management
Get rid of the specialized teams, and take care of our customers.
Pros
I enjoy working with the fun and active people in the company who enjoy to travel. The company is a fast work environment that I really enjoy.
Cons
It feels like the company has been doing some belt tightening and I miss some of the perks that we used to have like telecomuting.
Advice to Senior Management
I would hope that the company can focus more on fun activities that get all employees involved. We need more parties like the yearly christmas party!
Pros
This a very focused customer service company. Everyone has skin in the game. The salary is good but your expected to be on and available 24/7
Cons
They are quick to point out mistakes and not let you forget it.
Advice to Senior Management
Be prepared to have many sleepless nights. If you have a family, be prepared.
Pros
Smart people, growing company, recognized brand, travel benefits
Cons
constant senior management churn, moving cheese, rampant indecsion and direcion changes
