Pros
Expedia is a company full of brilliant people who love the travel industry. The senior leadership is light-your-hair-on-fire smart. The direction of the team is clear. And we're raging to win. There are few global companies with as much room to grow and learn as Expedia. If you're focused, willing to work hard and enjoy learning and accomplishment, this is a great company for you.
Cons
Not for those who don't like working hard.
Pros
You get to work on one of the emblema of the online travel industry. Shipping live a product is always a great moment of accomplishement. Certain managers reaylly nurture their teams and foster a very dydnamic atmosphere where you want to give your very best,
Cons
The process to get project approved is cumbersome and very bureaucratic. The approval system tends to turn like the UN where no consensus is never reached nor followed in the rare occasions that make the par. You start the year with 100+ key projects but you know that 3/4 of them will not actually be delivered because of change of focus, people attrition and constant strategy changes that leads to a bad morale among employees. too much politics and a lot of great people have been departing the company since 3-4 years now and knowledge is not passed away when these people leave.
Advice to Senior Management
Great strategy is not only about computing how corners offices are going to be allocated. Employment survey is a joke since no one actually follows what the people doing the work have to say and sometimes they do make very valid points. Stop re-orging every 6 months, it adds more confusion and people tend to focus more on securing their position by maneuvering than do actual work. Stop resting on your laurels, competing, Booking, Priceline and Google are working ahrd to get your spot
Pros
People, Travel Perks, Location, Smart Developers
Cons
Compenstaion is something they need to work on.
Pros
Good, basic benefits such as health insurance, 401k including 401k contributions. Nice, modern, enviro-friendly building. Free coffee and soft drinks. Some nice coworkers.
Cons
So many companies think they have the most brilliant people. Expedia thinks so, too. It isn't true. The people aren't smarter than anyone else, though you might think so from their arrogant attitude. The technology is pathetically outdated, I am sorry to say. And they really lowball you with salary. Contractors also terribly underpaid. Travel benefits not as wonderful as you might expect.
Advice to Senior Management
Rev up your technology. Make your site better for customers. Don't be complacent about your success. There's plenty of competition out there.
Pros
Management has steered the company safely in bad weather.
Cons
Need to become cutting edge and innovative again. Losing its competative edge.
Advice to Senior Management
Top management needs to know what is happening at the lowest level. Many people get promoted by favoritism while other hard workring remain stuck.
A task force will help to go at bullet speed and fix the most annoying and common problem that customer face. Then revamp the UI totally.
Pros
Benefits, travel, top leadership, vacations time
Cons
limited opportunity for growth, and also upper management not encourging growth to managers
Advice to Senior Management
If you want to retain your employees look to promote when it is deserved
Pros
A well known brand name, looks nice on your resume
Cons
Stay away from the Fraud Operations Department unless you like working with highly political managers. 50%-60% turn over rate bi-annually.
Advice to Senior Management
Fraud Ops Mgt - plz take classes on how to be humane to people who work their tail end off for YOU!
Pros
The work/life balance is good as are the benefits. The travel and technology industry is fun, making work more interesting.
Cons
Slow to recognize performers and shed under-performers. Pay is not competitive. Politics play too large a role within the organization.
Pros
Lots of challenging work with significant backend systems work.
Cons
Difficult to find decision makers and get things done.
Pros
People love building good technology. Leadership makes room to try new solutions. Leadership is invested in creating sound technical solutions, and the advice of the technical team is sought out and respected. Fun group of people.
Cons
Company has grown fast, and has accumulated a lot of technical debt. That makes it more challenging to make changes to applications. Some changes have unintended consequences. The company is addressing this.
