I have been working at Expedia as a contractor

    Pros

Very large startup which is nice in some regards which can prove comforting as they seem to have very good directioin.

    Cons

They are still trying to find there way as far as technology goes. What tools to use, and how to use them. Automation is just starting to ramp up for even the simplest of tasks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the employees, some of them have been in the industry a long time and know much more then there current role that they are in.

I worked at Expedia full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Some great management, some amazing people, fun product, can be flexibe with time, decent work/life balance

    Cons

Some insane, immature management and people, doesn't keep up with technology, low pay, no stock rewards unless you're high-level management, located in Bellevue

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your teams, ask for their input, their ideas, collaborate, improve transparency. I've seen millions lost on horribly managed projects and a department fall apart because upper management was naive, didn't talk to those below them, who--with their knowledge--could've prevented all the issues, failures and people bailing. Invest in technology. Pay a better salary and you'll get better talent. Pay attention to peer reviews, lower-level personnel and red flags--take off the blinders, don't promote or keep people because of personal friendships. I saw incredible people lost and horrible employees kept and/or promoted.

    Pros

Global presence. Company has enough market share with it's many brands to excel in the e-travel industry under the direction of a competent leader.

    Cons

Poor leadership from the top down. No vision and at times completely incompetent. This is a firm that is missing out on a ton of opportunity.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Think outside of the box, evaluate your leadership team.

I have been working at Expedia full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    Travel benefit on hotel rooms
Vacation days the longer you stay
A new hire you can move very quickly.
Luck, timing and being sharp can be leveraged. The company can be very responsive
    Salaries better on tech side.

    Cons

Lip service to women placement. May be better than average local metrics inn some departments, but still very uneven. Women vs men fall very short, for same job performance, tenure, qualifications...even if they index better than Seattle state.
Women who commit for the long run rarely get ahead vs new hires

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do a real assessment of women vs men talent by department. Leadership, therefore men should have x2 as many women's meeting. It is not vey useful for women to have these meetings if they do not have the power to make any changes. Women should not beed to become more like men to get ahead

I have been working at Expedia full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Love the people, supportive environment, good perks and time-off is descent. You can ask for help and people actually respond and help you. Excellent diversity programs. They create a good personal community path as well as a work community environment. Cool wellness benefits.

    Cons

Once you reach a certain level, there is not a ton of room for advancement. I've also had difficulty in promoting those on my team and can't seem to sort out why. I believe HR has a huge issue here. Also, our recruiting team needs a lot of work - so if you are applying...be patient - it's worth it to get to the other side but I don't think they leave a great impression (external AND internal). Comp is market average but some cool travel and wellness perks.

I have been working at Expedia full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Company is the right size for internal growth without getting lost in a mega-corporation. Lots of great collaborative tools in use. Open floor plan. Excellent benefits.

    Cons

Very large product. Moving faster than ever, but sometimes seems frustratingly slow. Many teams don't support working from home on a regular basis.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide better salary adjustment over time/promotions to people who have long tenure in company in order to retain experienced employees.
