    Pros

Talk about having the golden ticket. Don't be fooled, you will work hard, very, very hard. However the opportunity and reward come back ten fold. This company puts their money where their mouth is, they're interested in talent and they do all they can to recruit and keep it. Managers are there to encourage and support you through your journey, your team members become your second family, and the possibility of promotion and financial gain is an absolute reality for those who want it. Sure, there's always some corporate BS and nepotism, you'll never find a company without it, but I think Expeditors is a class act for their size and industry.

    Cons

The company focuses on recruiting from college so the bulk of the staff is young kids, first job out of college. If they aren't seasoned to the workforce it can be quite a shock, maybe feelings of entitlement. Things won't be handed to you, but they're all there for the taking if you're willing to put the work in and have a good attitude. If not however you can be left behind which some people feel is unfair. There's always a heavy ratio of male to female managers, would be better to see more women in positions of senior management locally. Occasionally the dress code becomes a bit ridiculous, but I prefer having one too strict than one that is too transparent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There are always shining stars, try to focus on those that don't burn as bright. See what you can do to make them feel just as crucial to the team and that they too have potential.

    Pros

There is job stability and excellent medical benefits- but thats it.

    Cons

Expeditors loves proclaiming top-notch 'professionalism' in the industry, but somehow manage to promote idiots with barely a high school education to supervisor/management positions. EI LAX is capitalism at its finest- why hire more people when 1 slave can do the job of 3? No rasies or bonuses are given to non-mangement employees, although the $$$$ is there. Ridiculous expectations from low-level management towards employees. No Human Resources Dept. HIGHLY STRESSFUL WORK ENVIRONMENT.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire yourselves. And STOP telling employees to be grateful we have jobs. Without your employees there is no Expeditors. Remember that. Also, low level managment need courses on how to coach employees. Better yet, you should require college educated people for sups/management positions. Novel idea.

    Pros

You don't have anyone constantly looking over your shoulder and have freedom to work without pressure, as long as you can get your work done and done well.

    Cons

Benefits package was reduced significantly to just adequate from far superior insurance plans. I understand this was done while economy was at its worst, however I don't suspect they'll bring things back when the economy/revenue improves.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Patience and understanding. There are some managers who are able to listen and work collaboratively, however some have no patience and can be rather condescending.

    Pros

Expeditors as a whole is an industry leader, and a highly professional and competent organization. It's alumni are dispersed broadly throughout the industry and it is immensely respected by competitors. You can learn alot about international logistics there.

    Cons

At least at the LA office, unless you are a member of management, it can be a dismal, demeaning place to work. The managers were sadistic and often love to bully employees around. Although as long as performance it maintained, it is doubtful this will change.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Evaluate managers on employee retention and satisfaction.
