    I worked at Expeditors

    Pros

Company picks up healthcare for your entire family right away. They like to promote from within instead of hiring outside. There is job security throughout whatever the economy is doing. They don't layoff a bunch of people in order to make more money. They corporate level really seems to care a lot about family and want you to succeed.

    Cons

Extremely low pay for the industry. Supervisors and Managers micro manage often and will send you emails asking why you were away from your desk for any period of time. It also has the "Office Space" feel when you make a mistake because you will hear it from numerous supervisors on what happened. They are extremely email orientated and there is little communication via phone or in person because management wants to keep your replies to use against you down the road. Management doesn't want to add more employees to help with the workload because that would effect the amount of monthly bonus they will receive. Don't call in sick because it will be questioned and your work will not be completed. Don't think about being promoted because it likely won't happen unless you want to move to a different state.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn what your employees do, help them when they struggle and need help. Talk to people instead of email all the time. Give part of the bonus pool to employees that continually shine.

I have been working at Expeditors full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Health insurance. Not much else.

    Cons

You will go far if you want to work long days and relocate to various different states (or countries) within the network. In Expeditor's linqua, this is translated as "you've got what it takes". If this is not what you're willing to do, then you are considered lazy or lacking in motivation.
Corporate has ZERO idea as to what goes on in the branch offices.
There is a reason why Expeditors is extremely profitable every year - they pay their operational employees squat. If you're an operational employee in one of the branches, it's not at all unheard of to be working for the company for over 10 years and still not surpass the $35/$40,000 mark. Honestly, it's quite sad.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

None - because they don't take advice.

I have been working at Expeditors as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Expeditors is a great company to work for. While it may not be as flashy as some of the other companies out there, they will treat you right. They are great about giving employees opportunities within the company. Many of the people on my team have switched from other groups without any experience in the field they're switching to. If you're willing to learn, they are willing to teach you. I've found everyone is willing to help if you are willing to communicate with them. My supervisor has been great about challenging me and giving me new tasks. I find that my supervisor and coworkers all have confidence in me even when I do not. While it can be a little "dry" and formal, I have enjoyed my time here.

    Cons

The dress is business formal for all positions. If you are working in IT, you still need to wear a tie. While the company cares about it's people, there are is not the free food, drinks, and events that some other companies of this size provide for it's employees. The environment is usually quiet and serious. These are just the small drawbacks, but it is still a great company.

    Pros

Opportunities are there for those who want to work for them. Culture and environment is not for everyone, but people who fit in stick around for the long haul.

    Cons

Generally a results driven company but there is some waste in some areas and occasional bad managers that don't know how to hold their people accountable. These are few and far between though.
