Pros
I worked as an intern at a location in the northeast, and despite the low compensation, I loved it. You learn a little bit of everything working here. The problem is that Express is a series of franchises, so while my location was fun interesting and engaging, you may have a different experience at another location.
Cons
If you work at a smaller franchise your compensation will be lower, and as with lots of other franchises there are some silly rules that come from corporate as well as compensation set by the local franchise owner.
Advice to Senior Management
Try and be more decisive with a fully articulated business plan and not get so focused on the weekly and monthly problems.
Pros
The biweekly news letters via email have useful information for employees seeking a full-time position.
Cons
Very little feedback from the staff
Advice to Senior Management
More interaction or feedback with the employees.
Pros
Weekly pay, great hours, flexible hours. My manager was very nice and patient and Christian. That's important to me. Very nice.
Cons
The lack of communication between employer and client was very evident. Either that or the client was shady. Glad I don't work there.
Pros
Steady work. I got made a permanent employee by the first and only company I was sent to.
Cons
Almost impossible to communicate with staff. In my nine months there I had to physically go to their office to get questions answered. Called several times and left voicemails to no avail. Even when i went to the office, I still left empty handed on one occasion when the only staff on duty was the receptionist. Now here's the big warning. Do not take their health insurance. You will charged roughly 120 dollars a month. Which wont seem too bad from the info they give you. But once you carry the insurance for 3 konths, you will recieve a letter telling you that you have a yearly maximum of 5000 dollars. Making this policy basically useless. Most people could get far superior coverage on their own for less money. And guess who's really, really unavailable after you bring up this problem? Also, my self and several other employees recieved w-2 about a week after the law permits. The lack of communication and blatant cost savings techniques are hurting this company and driving would be temps to other agencies.
Advice to Senior Management
If you are going to be extreme about keeping your costs down, don't make it so painfully obvious. Your reputation in my area is horrendous, which makes it amazing that you are profitable in places where you have competition. Treat the temps with a little more respect and offer them a health care plan that isn't a joke. Honestly, that garbage currently offered is barely even legal.
Pros
There is always a new job opportunity awaiting you, and the personel is friendly.
Cons
If you are continuing your education while working for Express they do not quite tolerate trying to find a job that will coincide with your schedule.
Advice to Senior Management
Do not appeal to a population that is continuing their education unless you are willing to work with them.
Pros
pretty good pay, respectable management
Cons
temp. agency, no paid time off, no excused absences or late
Advice to Senior Management
OUR PROFESSIONAL STAFF IS GREAT!!!! EASY TO WORK WITH AND TALK TO.
Pros
Each office was franchised which means that the owner was on site. This was extremely beneficial because decisions regarding changing a particular process or procedure could be made immediately. But, we also had the support structure of a corporation which allowed us to handle the hundreds of employees we placed with ease. There was a small staff, so all accomplishments were felt and praised by the entire team. The work environment was positive and fast paced; there was never a dull moment. At times, the work was so fast paced that an entire work day would fly by. Overall, I really loved working at Express.
Cons
There was room for advancement, but at a very slow pace- and it may require moving to a different location in order to make any real advancements. My particular branch was family owned, so some of the staff were members of the owner's family. At times, this made for an uncomfortable work environment because it was difficult to point out mistakes in a tactful manner. The hours were also not ideal for a "night person". 7am to 4pm was usually a little too early for me. There were also almost no opportunities for overtime, even when it was warranted.
Advice to Senior Management
The Express University is a wonderful tool for new employees, but I feel it should be much more interactive. Many of the lessons given are so generalized that they are not useful. Every office will inevitably run a little differently. It may be helpful to work with regional managers directly to develop a more directed training program for the needs of each region.
Pros
A National Stafing Firm with enterpreunerial-like environment. Given freedom and flexibility to grow business. Employees are dedicated, professional, hardworking, helpful to new employees, great teamwork
Cons
Because all offices are franchised, pay and benefits are much like a Mom & Pop operation- no group insurance plans as with most national staffing firms. No fringes such as bereavement pay, 401k matching funds. Technology (Applicant Tracking System and CRM) is right out of the 1980's.
Advice to Senior Management
CEO is disconnected with field offices and the people that help company succeed (and send royalty checks to Corporate Office). The company's software technology (Applicant Tracking System and CRM) is right out of the 1980's. CEO does not see the value of upgrading existing software even though it would actually increase ROI.
Pros
If you are a non minority who is Christian and attractive I believe this would be an excellent place to work. The pay is great for a person who is fresh out of school looking to get her feet wet.
Cons
There are several things I did not like. The way they talk about temps is horrible. Temps are people too they deserve to be treated with respect. Although the training on the computer was fair. The in person training is completely lacking. It is not okay to when you are supposed to be training someone who has never done this type of work before to literally walk away laughing when they ask you a question. That was a demeaning experience. She literally on the first day would not answer any questions and laughed in my face. It made me feel dirty like I was less than a person. Futhermore just the way I was hired was confusing and unprofessional. What kind of company makes you interview for one job gives you another job that you have no experiece in, you tell them you have no experience and you actually though you were getting hired for the first job, they say no they like you we want you full time in the office and not as a temp. a day later rescends that to half time, pays you less than the other person they hired for the second job ( in the office), tries to get you to quit your side job(i was wary so I said no thank God!) then two weeks later fires you during training with no warning for not having experience. It was cruel and mean sprirted and it definitely not okay to treat people like that.
Advice to Senior Management
If you know you don't like minorities don't hire them don't employ them soley to use them for their skills speaking spanish.
Pros
Express pays people on time and is considerate when you call in to let them know you are available for work.
Cons
Leadership doesn't have any action plans for getting people full time work, promoting its employees, or obtaining pay beyond minimum wage in most cases.
Advice to Senior Management
Help people get full-time employment - expand your health benefits - give people a reason to invest into Express with a 401K or other retirement plan. Use a collaborative method for reviewing management - step level reviews and employee surveys should be part of your performance plan.
