    Good discount on clothes, short shifts

    Cons

    Minimum wage, expected to wear heels all day, long hours, working late one night and early the next morning. Hard to have school schedule or second job schedule, working all holidays and weekends

    Pros

    - Great associate discounts (30% off, new quarter weekends give us 45% off)
    - Good upbeat music
    - Friendly co-workers and generally friendly managers
    - Fashionable store, love the style
    - Love the creativity I can put into my work outfits
    - 5 hour shifts... better than other retail places with 3 or 4 hr shifts

    Cons

    - Pressure to meet goals to "go green" and extreme pressure for the Express Credit Card
    - No recognition for doing a good job, but a lot of criticism for things you do wrong
    - BAD HOURS. Despite the 5 hour shifts, you'll probably only work one or two days out of the week. Many associates have second jobs because of this.
    - Many on-call hours, which they don't even use 99% of the time.
    - Managers play favorites.
    - Bad pay and bad hours for such expensive clothes.
    - No discount on red tag items.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    rid the on-call hours and have better training for new associates. I didn't really know how to "sell" until a new quarter meeting where an old associate helped me with how to sell and add on

    I have been working at Express

    Pros

    The employee discounts are incredibly good. 30% on top of any promotions (except 50%, and clearance0 everyday, and 45% once a month or so. You also get 50% off of everything for your first employee purchase.

    Hours are pretty flexible as well. The store I work at is understanding that a lot of their employees work two jobs or also attend school so they're very lenient with occasional availability changes.

    As long as you're on time, respectful towards customers, and do your job somewhat well- you'll never get fired.

    Cons

    There is no full-time employment unless you're a Sales Lead or Store Manager. A sales associate can look forward to one day getting 20-24 hours a week- but it'll take a while to get there.

    Being part time means no benefits. Sales Leads get benefits, but it takes a lot for an associate to make it to Sales Lead.

    Customers can be frustrating to deal with just like in any other retail environment- but the layout of Express stores doesn't help. Certain shirts require specific folds, packaging, etc. The men's side of Express usually has anywhere from 300-500 graphic t-shirts on the sales floor at once. This makes closing down the store a nuisance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Long term employees are the key to great customer service. Pay them more than minimum wage, reward them for opening credit cards, and start offering full-time to Sales Associates- then maybe they will stick around for more than a few months at a time.
