    Pros

if u want to meet new people and learn about sales thats about it

    Cons

horrible managers they treat people like crap specially the managers in the express at prudential center in boston they hired 150 associates before their grand opening all the associates helped build the store using tools that only construction workers use and then when the store finally opened all the associates were given just 4 hours a week to work and then all of asudden a huge mass of them got fired. theres only like 25 associates left who still work only one day. thats just wrong in many ways and the manager disrespect you a lot. they talk behind your back and they behave nicely when they feel like it. they they force ust to oversell and we get nothing back!!!

    Advice to Management

you need to change everything u r pure bad

    Pros

The same things that draw in customers: product design, style layout, standards, upbeat music, lighting. A few of the other employees "got it" in terms of colleague professionalism.

    Cons

Too few/no real growth opportunities. Unprofessional attitudes - many employees were too casual when speaking to me and customers. No solid empowerment - from register training, to tasking, to simply grabbing a pair of jeans from the back. I was always questioning my level of importance. There was a huge gap between leadership and associate.

    Advice to Management

If you're hiring capable educated college graduates, and you pay them minimum wage - trust that they will offer you minimum capacity under your current conditions.

    Pros

    - 30% discount for part time, 40% full time (this is more than most companies give). maybe 2-4 times a year you get an extra 15% off - keep up with latest fashions and have an "affordable" place to shop with discounts - you choose your availability and, at least at my store, college/high school students have a good chance of being hired - if you are good, they will give you more hours, but hours vary from week to week

    Cons

    - You should expect to stay at least 1-2 hours after your shift is supposed to end, especially when doing overnight floor sets. you don't always get to leave when they tell you can leave - managers make it very, very difficult to get your shifts covered, they tend to not approve them. - you need to reach certain quotas and goals, which is not bad, but may be stressful when having a slow day - NO benefits or bonuses - sales associates are paid minimum wage ($7.25) and the only way to raise that is to become a "fashion expert" which is not encouraged by managers, you have to fight for it or threaten to leave - managers do not encourage you to move up in the company or make an advance in your career - it is an incredible amount of work and time compared to the small amount you are paid - balancing work life, school life, and social life is extremely difficult because the job eats up all your time. - if you are new, you may only get 5-10 hours average a week. hours tend to vary. - no set schedule. you only receive your weekly schedule a week in advance, it's hard to plan your life around that - i've been working for the company for one year, i handle the floor sales as well as the registers and they say that i am one of their most valued employeed. even still, i have had no raise or promotion and it doesnt seem like i will be getting one anytime soon

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees with a little more respect, be understanding with hours and personal issues. Please encourage your associates to advance in the company, especially if you want to keep them. Do not just verbally reward your employees.

    Pros

The best reason to work for Express, LLC is the 40% plus discount on clothing.

    Cons

Major downsides were the high level of pressure and stress that is put on associates in the corporate office. You are expected to work 60-70 hours a week, but there is no appreciation shown for doing a good job. Associates are overall unhappy which leads to high turnover and low morale.

    Advice to Management

It would be beneficial for the company to hire managers who have good management skills and who have experience managing staff members. When you have good managers that provide positive feedback to associates, the morale will be higher and there wouldn't be such a high turnover of employees.

The short shifts in the back room with one break and just remedial work was really bad and you had to basically dress like the manikins.

    Pros

Employee discount of 50% off your first purchase.

    Cons

Incompetent managers. No commission, bad hourly, no desire to sell. They scream and yell in your ear to "sell sell sell! we need blablabla more to reach our goal!" when there is basically no incentive. Horrible communication between managers and everyone else. Hours can be ridiculous. Staying till after midnight when your shift was supposed to end at 10. Managers think they're better than you. Don't treat you with respect. Store manager didn't even know all of his employees' names.

    Advice to Management

Hire more competent managers who don't think that highly of themselves. They're just managers of a retail clothing store. Not a big deal. Increase hourly or implement commission base salary to give incentive to employees.
