They do very well in training you. The compesation is just ok but could be better. Overall it is a great place to work.

Very stingy with promoting you. Had to go outside the company to receive a promotion

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Review the salary structure

    Pros

Good training program, lots of opportunities to grow inside the company and the industry is growing rapidly

I have been working at Exterran

    Pros

pay the bill if you have no better place to go.

    Cons

Middle level management are useless, no training or opportunity for advancement even with degree and experience, promises are made and broken based on subjective issues.
Some middle level managers treat employees as objects and managed to turned the office to a sweatshop.
There is no future, no opportunities, and below market compensations. Knowing what I know now, I would never have accepted an offer to work for the company. I don't recommend it to any friends or to anyone...keep looking!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get ride of the third world countries managers/directors want to be...they could only for suppressing people, hypocrisy, lies, and broken promises.

I worked at Exterran (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Employees are generally high-quality and hard-working. Depending on your department, there may be room to grow. The company is now about seven years old and seems to be developing a more formal work culture.

    Cons

Some financial instability in the past and cost cutting seemed to lead to lower earning potential. Since Brad Childers took the helm, there has been a perceived increase in the income gap between the officers and everyone else. Upper management seems to be more focused on increasing earnings and cutting costs in the past--a good thing--but the culture may have suffered somewhat because of it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More sharing by employees between departments would be beneficial. In any large organization, information can get lost between people, but Exterran is especially fragmented.

I worked at Exterran as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

Relax, family environment, but they are still struggling to set their name in the oil & gas industry.

    Cons

complicate internal structure. great promotion if you work here more than 10 yrs. Training is good more entry level, they take time to train you.

  10.

    Pros

    Good work environment, dynamic work.

    Cons

Dragging feet on technology upgrades, and IT management a little uneducated on current IT trends.

Good Company but Room for Improvement

    • Comp & Benefits

    • Culture & Values
    • Career Opportunities
Former Employee - Intermediate Project Engineer in Houston, TX
Former Employee - Intermediate Project Engineer in Houston, TX

I worked at Exterran full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Focused on safety; spends money on developing employees, and has different career paths available.

    Cons

If you've been with the company for some time your salary isn't increased accordingly to market conditions. Hires too many people outside of the industry which creates problems with "PROVEN" ideas not working out as planned.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This review is a bit old but it seemed that they could increase merits based on market conditions. There are also too many managers and not enough workers. Could look at reducing overhead.

    Recommends
    Neutral Outlook
