I worked at ExxonMobil as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Great company culture. Employees generally respects work-life balance. Plenty of job rotations within the company across different level and departments. Good pay for interns across the industry.

    Cons

Amount of talent hired by the company makes one difficult to stand out, which is crucial for promotion during the employee ranking period.

I worked at ExxonMobil as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Great place to work overall. The people are amazing to work with. Manangement is professional.

    Cons

    - In Customer Service as a Contractor if you slip up once you can get fired in a split second for anything! To agressive in your email? Fired. Have an opinion? Fired.
    - Word of advice. Never ever attempt to voice your opinion or be agressive in your emails or over the phone.
    - Management is very Black and White. They see the grey area but it doesn't really ever get resolved because of so many other advanced issues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Tell your Contractors to be careful with there opionions, and what they say. If they can be fired for saying anything agressive in a email then why employee them?

I have been working at ExxonMobil full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great for new hires straight out of colleges and developing a career from there.

    Cons

Management changes every 2-3 years. Managers and leads are people with very poor technical skills. This company basically runs on it's contract employees. The company has gone into a recent hiring spree for experiences hires to cover the gap in experience with the promise of developing their careers and providing global opportunities. This is a farce. The job you get hired into is the job you get stuck into. Your life will be pretty miserable if your manager finds out that you get paid higher than them or your CL level is higher than theirs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you are letting experienced hires go within a year. There is a serious problem with your management within that group.

I have been working at ExxonMobil full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

We have so much time off because we need it. The company expects a lot. The harder you work the more they expect. They do treat us very well. Hard work, being safe and positivity are important in order to survive in the work place.

    Cons

Do not stray from status quo.

I have been working at ExxonMobil full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Stable, consistent employer with a long-term business focus. Re-emphasizing US Gulf Coast growth, especially in commodity petrochemicals. Personnel and operations safety is highly emphasized.

    Cons

Rating and ranking system is extremely opaque and arbitrary. No clear way to self-direct career path, especially in the engineering specialist disciplines. No 9/80 schedule option.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create a job posting system that at least makes employees aware of other assignment possibilities, as is done in almost all other companies in Exxon's class.

    Process Engineering Internship

    I worked at ExxonMobil

    Pros

Relatively good pay for internships locally. Great opportunity to learn about downstream refining processes and learning how to use software and tools to optimize setups

    Cons

Location is extremely far and time consuming to get to. Company has quite a lot of red tape, probably since the occurrence of the Valdez incident. Took me about 4 hours to travel each day!

I have been working at ExxonMobil full-time

    Pros

Choose your career path. Compensation is very competitive. High performance is rewarded handsomely. Some positions allow you to create your own work.

    Cons

Forced ranking system. Some positions carry a lot of stress and long working hours; weekends and nights occasionally. Some employees get by on how well they are liked instead of performance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rethink the comp time vs. overtime policy. Could push hard working employees into the arms of a competitor.

Former Employee - Support Analyst in Curitiba (Brazil)

I worked at ExxonMobil full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

It is a secure business so the job is very stable. If you want a place to retire on, there is the place. Lots of rules and people make the job easy to master.

    Cons

Lots of managers are managers by the time they are there, and not by merit. The longest time employees have priority on new opportunities, even though they are not top performers. The salaries are on the 90% of the market, as a policy. Boring

    Neutral Outlook
