I worked at F5 Networks (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great product, but complicated, steep learning curve. They get it that they need to diversify by adding new products, acquisitions.

    Cons

Leadership was workaholic, not interested in any work/life balance. Quarterly beatings of non-performers in front of your peers. High stress.

    Advice to Management

Your people are key. Invest in them.

    Pros

Outstanding benefits, parking and commuting options.

    Cons

No life/work balance. Turning into Amazon.

    Advice to Management

If you sincerely want to repair cultural damage it will only work from the top down. We need to see action, not lip service. The "culture" class for employees isn't going to fix anything.

I have been working at F5 Networks full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Make some pretty good money. Benefits are pretty solid. Commute in is easy and the company comp's you for almost the entire cost of commuting. HR and CorpOps are very active promoting culture and continually enhancing the work environment. Work can be stimulating depending on who you work with and for. There are a lot of smart people to chat about various networking things with. Many people have been there 7+ years. I guess that says something about the company in general.

    Cons

Line management really needs to be connected or else you get into situations where nobody provides any guidance. Feels like a company full of people with Asperger syndrome. Many engineers with senior titles have just been promoted from the support org; they're not trained engineers. Office feels like a bank with the outdated padded walls and individual cubes. Middle management also can stop being so insistent that you be in your chair from 9 to 5. For a place that is seriously limited in office space they should leverage remote working more often than they do.

    Advice to Management

Can't speak for upper management much. Perhaps start focusing more on software and less on hardware. Hardware will always be needed for the giant service providers, but the rest of the world runs on software. Middle management needs to collaborate more and plan together to reduce the work redundancy between teams. Middle management can also stop micromanaging while they're at it.

    Pros

Good company that has grown well over past years. Many talented people that are great to work with. Decent/Competitive compensation. The company reward top performer well and provide good career growth opportunities.

    Cons

Work/life balance varies depending on the organization and location. Many good talented people left F5. The company is much agile years ago and it's becoming much heavier now. This is not uncommon for a company growing rapidly. However, it is yet to be seen how the company maintain/evolve the culture and keep a good balance between heavy/inefficient process and agility (for both internal and customer challenges). Overall, F5 is still one of the best networking company in my opinion.

    Advice to Management

Need to have better focus on people (Especially listen to employees), and make F5 an even better work place for sustainable growth in the future.

I have been working at F5 Networks full-time

    Pros

Exciting technology, smart people, great culture. There is always something new and exciting going on particularly in our field: security and cloud. Can't say enough positive things about this company

    Cons

The company runs a tight ship and each employee is expected to perform at their best. It isn't necessarily a con, but if you are the one that just want to cruise and be lazy, this company isn't for you.

    Advice to Management

I think my suggestion only is to continue to innovate like F5 always has, and stay on top of the technology trends. I would have to say that F5 is doing a very good job at this at the moment.

I have been working at F5 Networks full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent pay and great internal career opportunity. Good work-life balance. Surrounded by very sharp and smart people. Overall, I really like this company as they are not treating employees as just an expendable resource but pay respect to individuals who are willing to contribute.

    Cons

Start to see too many middle management tiers that makes the company not as agile as it used be and lost focus on things. But overall it is still far better than typical enterprise-ish organization where managements are doing nothing but political games.
