I have been working at FBI

    Pros

The mission to protect the lives and property of the citizens, the people that work for the FBI, and great work.

    Cons

Having to fight to keep your budget without money being cut

I have been working at FBI full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Reputation/status. Many opportunities as far as job function goes. Job security, and above average pay, keep employees on board.

    Cons

The F is for Federal, the B in FBI is for Bureaucracy. And that makes it a difficult atmosphere to accomplish much. You must relocate to promote up. The pay is above average, but the hours are above average.

I worked at FBI full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Extremely creative problem solving. I know it may sound odd, but Agents are given a very wide latitude to investigate their cases. Incredible resources available from the OTD people - think James Bond stuff.

    Great mission.

    Cons

It is a government agency and they do not get rid of the deadwood. Promotions are often easily available if you are willing to relocate every three years.

I have been working at FBI full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The people are the greatest. Everybody pulls together to get the job done. You have a feeling of accomplishment at the end of the work day.

    Cons

Not enough promotional opportunities for support staff right now, but things seem to be improving. Entry level positions are perfect for those just finishing their Bachelors, or Masters degrees.

I worked at FBI full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good promotions--usually promoted to a higher GS each year or so.

    Cons

Due to the excellent promotion rate, a lot of people got to where they are based on seniority rather than knowledge and how to actually deal with people. The managers are incompetent and the supervisors are power hungry.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work with people better in regards to maternity leave, military leave, and school leave without pay. Switch promotions to based on skills rather than seniority.

I worked at FBI full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Prestige of employer; interesting and nationally followed cases

    Cons

Can't recommend working at Headquarters - more camaraderie in the field offices.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Professional staff are treated as second-class citizens, little room for advancement if you're not a special agent.
