I worked at FBR full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good Management. CIO is really good. Some managers are inexperienced but overall it has good leaders. They take care of people really well. Lack of proper judement from business caused the company to go down a little.

    Cons

Bad market for finance. Some bad decisions caused the company to drain down in cash. With finance companies struggling a lot it is tough for this company to go up again.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    not my piece of cake

I worked at FBR full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Team-orientated environment, closely-knit company where you will meet everyone. Great learning environment. They seem to have very knowledgable and talented people.

    Cons

Very poor management. The upper-level has no idea what is going on day-to-day, and doesn't try to find out. The pay structure is very skewed, and it seems that support staff is under valued and unappreciated. Too many upper level executives not producing, but clogging up the balance sheet. Seems to be going downhill quickly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on the profit making activities and what the company is good at, and not spreading resources too thin.

    I worked at FBR

    Pros

FBR has some very talented people. The salary and benefits were reasonable. The company is very flexible on work-life balance, and the most enticing benefit is an open-ended paid time off policy, at the discretion of the manager.

    Cons

The company has lost money for the last 19 quarters. 4 very large firm-wide reduction in staff in the last 3 years. Tough work environment & low morale Everyone is spread very thin.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate! Find new ways to generate revenue. Get rid of non-producing groups.
