I worked at FFE Transportation full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The pay was really good. they have a good culture and great personnel to work with. they work really well with you if you have illness in your family.

    Cons

If the culture and policies changed, you never knew it until you made a mistake and called into the office. When you had a problem and went to the senior management they say they will take care of it. they make a phone call to the person you are complaining about, and then they turn around and take it out on you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior Management was always keeping secrets about the company. The night crew was always left in the dark about the company and its policies.

I worked at FFE Transportation full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Day to day challenges were met with our immedicated supervisor support at hand.

    Cons

Too many high management VP's salaries to support. Cost the company to loose it's edge.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep high salary positions to key positions and reward the work force that does the work.

I worked at FFE Transportation part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Friendly atmosphere among the dispatchers. The dispatchers do try to keep you busy.

    Cons

Lack of trucks. Poor management. There has been a lack of driver retention. The reefer trailers are dirty, and have a lot of problems. You won't know when you are going to be on the road until the afternoon before you leave. They expect you to be "on-call."

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Eventually, you are going to be without a driver base if you keep running your drivers away. Take a look at the shortage of drivers in Stockton, Salt Lake City, and Portland. You reap what you sow.

I have been working at FFE Transportation full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Hours if you are on days.6-2 and working environment is pretty laid back.

    Cons

Being a dockworker you are treated like scum. This place only promotes people that are screw ups and complete morons. The benefits are terrible you pay 56 dollars a week for insurance for a single person. for a family it is around 110 dollars a week. Once you reach 14 doolars an hour in the Illinois terminal that is the cap. The management and terminal manager is a complete joke and all needs to be changed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take managing skills classes. Learn how to talk to people.

    Cons

If you are on 3rd shift you work every Saturday Overnight, which means if you want a Saturday Off you must use a sick day or a vacation day.

    Pros

    laid back
    relaxed dress code
    tight knit employee family
    management easy to talk to

    Cons

not much room for advancement because the company is so small.
    no exempt positions

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not make promises that of which you are unsure yourselves. And don't speak about the firing of employee with other employees

I have been working at FFE Transportation full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Overtime is given (although it is always mandatory).

    Cons

Many more cons. The pay is pretty low considering it is the same work that other companies perform but other companies pay $15 to $24 an hour. I realize this is a smaller company but if you expect to retain employees, then you need to pay them for the hard work. Requesting days off is almost always frowned upon and in some cases even denied. Management is very disorganized and very non-professional at times. There is a very high turn over for the warehouse positions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get some better people to manage your warehouse. People that will take the time to speak to the workers and determine what needs to be "fixed" so things can move more smoothly and productively. Also, keep the employees informed about accrued time, benefits, etc. There should be a system developed so people can easily attain important information about their position.

I have been working at FFE Transportation as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

The people who work there are very nice and down to earth, and the management is very flexible on time off and hours each day. Also, good location.

    Cons

The work is boring, the industry is boring, and the technology in the building is very old and out of sync.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Know your staff better and their strengths so you can utilize them.

    Pros

They treat their drivers very well and try hard to give them plenty of work.

    Cons

Still very much a "good old boys" network. Office staff are not listened to about how things could be improved even when it directly is inline with company desires.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust your people to do the jobs you hired them to do. Don't micromanage.
