    Pros

A real competitive organization focused on being the best. Lots of room to grow as long as your committed and bring value.

    Cons

Can be lots of pressure and long hours if you can't schedule time for life.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep sharing responsibilities and empower your teams to enable them to deliver results.

I have been working at FGL Sports

    Pros

    - Excellent Job security
    - Competitive base salary
    - Relaxed work environment
    - Training incentives
    - Decent benefits
    - Flex working hours

    Cons

    - Lots of Leadership hierarchy
    - Takes forever to receive requested IT services or anything requiring signatures
    - Management seems disorganized when planning IT projects
    - RRSP contribution favors long term employees and doesn't start until 6 months

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Too much delay with service requests frustrates everyone. It cannot be that difficult to fix this area.

I have been working at FGL Sports full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Flexibility, on site gym, on site daycare, discount, other co-workers.

    Cons

Lacks direction, Low salary compared to the rest of the city, Upper management doesn't care about mid management and below, it's about who you know, not what you know. HR is a joke, No body can make a decision. High turnover, No training of employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Come up with a strategic plan and sick with it for more then a few months. Be a leader rather then a dictator/manager, Lead by example. Have key decision makers in each department. Encourage the departments to work together. The upper management should actually interact with lower level employees rather then meet with other upper managers all day long. There are all kinds of jobs popping up, but that is because of high turnover.

    Pros

good discount, great connections, sporting goods

    Cons

pay was surprisingly low, raises were next to none, boys club, direction wasn't consistent from managers, us vs them mentality from department to department

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember it is cheaper to pay your current staff a bit more than to have the turnover you currently have

    Pros

Awesome discount. Get to wear jeans and running shoes to work.

    Cons

Head office couldn't care less about its employees. You are only a number that makes them money. The district manager was a useless jerk
. Treated everyone like they were beneath him. Never did anything. Our GM was less than useless. Did nothing and treated everyone like crap. Multiple complaints to the DM and HR about home and nothing done. Not someplace to work for a career.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your people with some respect!! Male sure senior management is actually working!!

I have been working at FGL Sports full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    Working in sporting goods
Passionate and competitive group of employees
Decent benefits package and employee discount
    Industry leader
    Strong long term vision
    Community connection and Jumpstart

    Cons

Currently lacks a structured on-boarding/training program at office.
Can be decent pay, but questionable whether it is comparable to oil and gas.
Stressful, results driven business (nature of retail and public companies)
Seemingly runs too lean at times. Are opportunities missed due to time constraints?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

On a good path, but continued focus on improving training and work-life balance for employees will help retain strong employees.

I have been working at FGL Sports full-time

    Pros

The discount is the only benefit really. I enjoy working with like minded individuals but I could also just hang out with them outside of work... which would be a lot more fun.

    Cons

Over worked manager's, district managers that are distant from the store and unable to see the smaller picture within a store. Very difficult to advance unless you have a manager who is willing to help, most of the time they just seem afraid that you'll replace them. A head office that is very separated from the retail side, making it conflicting when one company wide directive comes out.
The mission statement is also a bit of a joke, because if you work full time your manager begrudges you any time you request off. They want you to promote their mission statement but they won't let you live their mission statement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop holding people back, with the rapid growth of the company not only Fgl branded stores but CTC stores as well, the more you train and grow people who will help you grow. Figure out who your star players are and get them on your side.

I have been working at FGL Sports full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    Generally laid back atmosphere.
    Nice discounts.
Company tries hard to have events to lighten the mood.
    Stability.
Large company you see everywhere and you can be proud to be a part of.

    Cons

Raises are almost non-existent - even when company is flourishing. No explanation of why.
    Opportunities to advance are limited.
Tenure is not at all considered in pay or opportunities.
HR claims wages are competitive, but they generally are not.
In my particular area of the company, we are worked very hard with little in way of compensation or recognition from our superiors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please realize that it costs a lot more to train someone new than it does to pay just a little more and keep your team happy. It also tarnishes the company name for future recruitment.
