Pros
FINRA is a great place to work - great benefits, good people, many educational opportunities, and the work is exciting.
Cons
FINRA may not be the place for you if you have an entrepreneurial spirit or need a fast-paced, constantly changing work environment.
Advice to Senior Management
Management is doing a great job at keeping employees motivated to do their jobs and promoting a good work environment.
Pros
Good Benefits, good learning place for college interns and junior associates out of school.
Cons
Management is not informed or well versed in subject matter. The select few rule and when their actions are questioned, heads will role. Everything is subjective, no one in upper management can make an definitive call on anything. Poorly run. A lot of wasted time spinning wheels. Very Political atmosphere.
Advice to Senior Management
Learn what rules apply and make a judgement call and stand by it.
Pros
Company with great reputation and collegial environment
Cons
non-paid internship.. should have more activities to help interns bond.
Pros
Stability, Learning opportunity, Skill Development
Cons
Too specialized, Decision-making, Leadership, Location and Compensation
Advice to Senior Management
Find a better way to compensate employees and recognize top performers rather than grouping everyone together
Pros
Benefits are very good and low cost. The mission of the company is noble.
Cons
Depending on where you work, it could be good or bad. It really depends on your immediate managers and the directors above them. Some are willing to listen to front-line employees, others think they know what's going on in the trenches but they really have no clue.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to employees, managers do not know what is going on by just sitting behind a desk reading a newspaper
Pros
• The benefits are great and there is plenty of job stability.
• You get to work for a company that has a great mission of customer protection and market integrity.
• A great stepping stone into the industry.
Cons
• Nepotism and favoritism run high even if the person is incompetent
• Pay is average or poor if you are not a favored employee or brownnoser
• There is NO room for advancement for minorities and/or women with small children
• Management has no real industry experience and they hate being challenged
Advice to Senior Management
Stop playing favorites and encourage all of your employees. This is the only way the company will grow....I would not recommend anyone to work in this office unless they were "one of the boys"... Turnover is high for a reason.
Pros
Depending on which department/group you work in, it can be a FUN place to work. FINRA also has a fun atmosphere - most employees are 25-35 years old, and have a wide array of backgrounds.
The benefits package is terrific (at least when I was there - it may have worsened since) and work life is very decent too.
The pay is not bad and bonus is very performance driven.
Cons
Typical turnover is 2 years, Don't really expect to stay more than 2-3 years. People get burned out quickly. Some departments are more high-pressure than others, but if you are unlucky and get a not-so-great manager, don't expect to love your job.
The bonuses are not consistent and not always reflective of your efforts. Its a numbers game despite what they tell you. Getting promoted is not easy.
If you leave, dont expect any tears from management. They will have 200 resumes of their desk from people seeking to replace you within 2 weeks. Mgrs have little incentive to retain top performers when they can hire someone else for 1/3 less.
Advice to Senior Management
Put emphasis on retaining top performers, reward good results, and promote employee development.
Pros
FINRA's mission to protect investors and maintain integrity of the market. A lot of the people who work there love their job they do. They have the best intentions and approach their work professionally.
Cons
Unfortunately, for too many, once they get into the higher management positions it becomes more about power and maintaining that than encouraging others to reach their potential. There's a lot of self promotion and promotion of friends to support the power base.
Advice to Senior Management
Explore your management choices and their motives better if you want to decrease turnover. Find a more professional, democratic leader to run the office.
Pros
Great and touch benefits! Learning and Development Programs and awesome schedule! Front desk security is great and you fell safe
Cons
Long tenure employees are threaten by new comers. No room for intervention or new ideas. If you you're under 40 and have great ideas such as new software, processes and procedures. Do not apply.
Advice to Senior Management
Top management should reveluate second level managers. Enforce additional training courses.
Pros
stability and benefits
good place to start
Cons
salary is not as high as I expected
Advice to Senior Management
no advice to management
