I have been working at FMC full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

not too many, an ethical company

    Cons

pay raises capped at no more than 1 or 2 percent. Experienced employees are taken for granted and have no chance for advancement. Instead the "youngies" get all the advancement since they are cheaper. Benefits are horrible.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You are going to need a mix of young and old in your organization and you need to value the experienced employees equally with the young upstarts.

I worked at FMC full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Strong, niche player in selected markets. Staff are very knowledgeable in their areas of expertise. R&D site is very new with nice facilities.

    Cons

Lots of flux in senior management. Lack of confidence that current strategy will remain intact. Lack of vision on where the future growth will come from.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Decide on a strategy and stick with it. If you want new and innovative products streaming out of R&D on a continuous basis you can't change the strategy every couple years.

I worked at FMC full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Global company with worldwide opportunities, if you want to live in some of the worst locations.

    Cons

Low salaries. Claim to be competitive, but salaries have really slid.
Poor management, particularly in HR at Green River. A chemical engineer as an HR manager, who has zero people skills, has turned many people, particularly skilled engineers, away. She sides with management, and as a result, has not stood up for strong employees that could make this company great. The turnover has been huge. Her entire department left her, if that gives you any indication of the work environment there.
Safety record is slipping. Management only cares about the bonuses involved with safety, but they don't put the blame where it belongs, with the workers. Middle managers, who are paid less than union, are the scapegoats.
If you want to move up, you have to move every 18 months or so, to places you really don't want to live. If you say no, then you are "punished" with lower-level assignments and the silent treatment. You could get put on the night shift for months on end, working overtime without getting overtime pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure you put employee and management advocates in HR and top management positions. Make your salaries more competitive. Instead of letting people walk out the door, figure out what makes them happy and what it takes to keep them happy.

I worked at FMC full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The plant is big enought that you can get involved in a lot of different things, or you can focus in on one specific process. The initial training was very in depth and they made sure you were on the right track

    Cons

It was a little isolated from the world, and pretty cold in the winter. That's forgivable though as your also close to the country.

I have been working at FMC

    Pros

The salaries are fair, and the people are great!

    Cons

There does not seem to be any regard for family and work balance. Most employees are overwhelmed by the amount of tasks that they are responsible for.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote and hire more U.S. employees.

    I worked at FMC

    Pros

They pay good, most of the people were great to work with, casual work environment (yes, we could wear jeans to work).

    Cons

Lean staffing, long hours and little recognition for your efforts. No consistency with policies, annual performance reviews a joke, a majority of managers didn't even bother doing them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Implement consistent policies, ensure the performance evaluations are mandatory for all employees, weed out inept managers, investigate complains of unethical manager behavior.
