Pros
People are great and friendly. Ability to learn and grow.
Cons
Pay is not GREAT, but fair.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep on doing a great job (and give your people a big raise every once and a while).
Pros
Great people to work with, good learning experience
Cons
poor communication from senior management, hard to advance in career and you will most likely do way more than your position asks for and not get recognition for it, and you don't get much time to have a life
Advice to Senior Management
Communicate better!
Pros
The only and I mean ONLY "Pro" that this place can offer you is the training. I worked here for over 3 years so I know what I'm talking about. This group is very lean so you will be doing the job of 3-4 people at the same time which can be both a great learning experience and miserable existence.
Cons
I would say working for the finance group here is 10% Pro and 90% Con. DO NOT take it from interns or people who have been here for less than two years, that's the honeymoon phase as we veterans like to call it. And I am only speaking of the Finance group in this review. If you are looking for a work/life balance look elsewhere it does not exist here unless you are a Director or higher. If you are not smart but can brown nose really well you will thrive here. You are told when to come in, when to leave, and what to wear. You are told to be in early and leave late. You must look over your shoulder at all times because freedom and happiness are prohibited here. Incompetence is rewarded with promotions and opportunities if the incompetence is outweighed by superb brown nose skills. Employee happiness is not valued here or cared about. If you are working late, no one cares. If you come in early, no one cares. But if you DONT stay late or come in early everyone cares. This place is ONLY about perception and not performance, regardless of what they tell you. I would not recommend this place to anyone except my worst enemy. If you are looking for a place to work like a slave, be unhappy, be miserable, and like being treated like a child, this is is the place to be.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your group and stop thinking everything is Okay. This group is the most poorly managed group I have been a part of. The people who work under you are humans not computers. Don't expect perfection when you yourself cant exercise it. You expect so much but give so little if anything at all. We are adults not children and we didn't go through all these years of schooling and training to be treated like kids or even interns.
Pros
Great place to start right out of school or as an entry-level career. You'll be thrown right in and given the opportunity to wear many hats. The employees are generally friendly and will respect and think of you as family. The small staff and limited resources make you feel like you make an impact. You see many of the talent on a day to day basis and they actually take time to remember your name.
Cons
Easy to get boxed in, you will more than likely be passed over for a promotion due to nepotism. The pay is atrocious and the building is severly outdated, stuffy, and if you work in the newsroom, without windows. Many people remain at the company simply because its stable work and because of the high ratings will be guaranteed to have a job as long as they don't screw up. Not the best company to spend your post entry-level years with. If you're really passionate about the company you can always leave and return a lot of people have done this.
Advice to Senior Management
Please, please I cannot emphasize this enough, ensure that your employees are getting the opportunity to progress! Many are unhappy and constantly looking for other work.
Pros
very best and brightest people in industry. great family atmosphere with lots of opportunity behind cameras for advancement into higher positions.
Cons
it's a 24 hour news channel-- so there isn't anything bad about working at fox that doesn't apply to the industry as a whole. the hours and stress go along with all news jobs.
Pros
FNC has a great team of people who are hard working and collaborative. Employees are given a lot of opportunity to generate their own ideas and see them executed.
Cons
Not too many negatives to report. FNC has fewer employees than its competitors, so prepare to work long hours and have the ability to multi-task.
Advice to Senior Management
Be clear with your editorial pitches and flexible with the tasks you are willing to compete. Get to know others at the company.
Pros
A good place to gain experience or build resume and move on.
Cons
Poor management and leadership. Current management needs to be replaced
Pros
Lot's of "trial by fire" experience; travel; intimate company
Cons
understaffed; cheap; difficult to advance beyond NY office
Advice to Senior Management
Less hyper-control of employees; more professionalism
Pros
Busy, fun at times with new challenges everyday. Projects are never dull and always coming your way without any downtime (which I prefer)
Cons
Management does not have a concise way to describe and maintain projects. Teams are always changing, due to people quitting, making building relationships a thing of the past. Although the work is challenging, Fox News content is not something that is particularly fascinating.
Advice to Senior Management
The digital team is like a morgue. People do no talk, laugh or joke around. I understand its a place of work but an environment like this tends to lead to burnout.
Pros
competitive, challenging with good benefits.
Cons
low salary, long hours, preferential treatment.
Advice to Senior Management
Anchors aren't the only talented people in a newsroom.
