Favoritism amongst Senior Directors and Management is common

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep doing a great job!

Terrific experience of good, bad and ugly management styles - both internally and externally (client facing).

    Senior Consultant (Former Employee)

ProsGreat experience across a wide range of clients, particularly in healthcare (systems, standalones, AMCs, rural and urban hospitals). Good pay.

ConsPerformance review process was inadequate, managing directors not held to consistent standards for developing their supporting staff. Difficult to advance within firm without leaving and then returning

Advice to Senior ManagementImplement a 360 review process, implement a more dynamic pay-for-performance, and subsidize continuing education for top talent.

Solid work experience, but poorly managed and too much emphasis on unrealistic budgets.

    Senior Consultant (Current Employee)
    Roseland, NJ

ProsHas lucrative complex clients and there is much to be gained in enhancing ones skills and on the job knowledge and experience.

ConsThe atmoshphere/culture is lacking; offices don't function as a unit. Offer many consulting services and employ a variety of professionals with different credentials.

Advice to Senior ManagementForm more of a cohesive group. Give employees better performance feedback. Enhance the culture and unit.

Good people, good company, solid experience.

    Director (Former Employee)

ProsVery smart, dedicated people doing a lot of good, interesting work.

ConsLarge enough that it can be inflexible. It's also possible to get stuck doing a ton of work such that work-life balance suffers.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to find some ways to allow for more entrepreneurial flexibility in lower levels of the organization. There are a lot of smart, motivated people who could add more value for clients if they were given more room to maneuver (though I'll admit that striking the right balance in a large organization can be difficult).

Political, but strong room for growth if talented

    Associate (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

Prosglobal footprint, promote talented employees, some top-tier practices

Consexpansion through acquisitions has led to fragmented culture, office politics can get in the way of strategic planning at a high level

Advice to Senior ManagementIncentive cross-selling and spend more to promote organic growth, rather than growth through M&A

Focuses on revenue, not on operations management

    Perceived corporate reputation has value
Great lessons on what not to do

ConsEmployees are generally dissatisfied with executives living in the bubble

Too many leaders have been with the company under loose practices for too long believing that this is the way things should be managed - out of touch with the state of best practices
Too many cowboys, leading to redundancy, and risky management practices

Advice to Senior ManagementSell the business to new owners who know how to manage a global company, and who will implement better management practices
    Pass the torch
