I have been working at Facebook

    Pros

    - Company really, really loves its employees, given they are delivering
    - High energy, talented colleagues. Tons of learning opportunities from others
    - Super perks - 4 months paternity leave, free food, social events
    - Freedom. Lots of rope to define own path in an area or on a team

    Cons

    - Expectations are high so a lot people are putting in long hours. I haven't had a problem with work/life balance, though.
    - Technical debt. Moving fast means adding layers vs. designing stable systems.
    - Crowding. Recent employee growth means it can be hard to find private space for meetings, calls, etc...

I have been working at Facebook full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Competitive compensation package (base salary, bonus, equity)
    Great benefits (free food)
Open culture (weekly Q&As with Zuck and other executives)
Helping build a product that people regularly use
Great experience to build your resume
4 month paternity/maternity leave fully paid

    Cons

No slacking off allowed! Teams run lean and move fast.
Despite how young the company is overall, there still seems to be an age bias for older, more experienced employees, rather than more impactful employees, regarding recognition and promotions. At least in Finance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Despite how young the company is overall, there still seems to be an age bias for older, more experienced employees, rather than more impactful employees, regarding recognition and promotions. Seems to be contrary to our value of focusing on impact.

I worked at Facebook as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

The perks at Facebook are unmatched in Silicon Valley. They offer free laundry service, and possibly the highest quality free food on the planet.

    Cons

Very demanding in environment, with a poor work life balance. There is an expectation to put in as many hours as necessary and can be very stressful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management is very hands off and will let their engineers drive the direction of the company. This style is enjoyable and times, but I feel they would benefit from occasionally taking a more active role in their employees work.

The culture - it is unbelievable - hacker culture

    Cons

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Facebook

    Pros

    Lots of positives:
    - Everyone moves fast. Things definitely break, but there aren't layers of approvals, meetings, etc.. Just go do it. All employees are VERY empowered to go off and build, fix, and suggest improvements. This environment is very motivating.
    - Downside of this, work can take over your life if you let it. You need to have your personal life in order, or no personal life, to defend other aspects of your life. Not for those that are not disciplined.
    - Smart people - You learn a lot (also due to the very open culture of sharing information), but also forces you to be concise, efficient, and direct. No games (mostly), 2 hour meetings, etc. Forces you to maximize your time and grow yourself and your role.

    Cons

    Tough work/life commitment

Some cultural elements/tools don't need to necessarily change, but need to be adjusted for a larger company. Better to get these discussed in the open as Facebook evolves.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider creative measures to give back some time to your employees - example managers have discretion to give employees 1/2 day off every month or two as a 'forced' time off to help balance work-life balance.

I have been working at Facebook full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

You can make almost any change you really want to the most popular apps on the planet. How much you do is really a function of how much you're capable of and how much you can back up your decisions.

    Cons

Guidance is slight, and you have to convince people to ship things after you've already built them, not before. It's a difficult thing to get used to.

    Pros

Zuck is a legend in his own time, his Friday Q&A's are can't miss and it is awesome to hear him handle the tough unexpected questions.
    Perks are world class
Leadership listens to challenges that employees are facing and for the most part makes changes to correct.
It is a fun culture and we have some pretty legendary parties
It is stunning how transparent leadership is with the whole company.

    Cons

    The commute to Menlo Park
    Occasional Politics

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep facing the tough challenges head on
Open a San Francisco office, this will eventually be a weakness because all younger companies are located in city.
