Advice to Senior Management
Take a look at what employees actually care, and what ones just do the bare minimum (or less). Reward and promote those who are hard working and want to make a career out of their jobs.
Pros
Work with really cool people, who are of comparable age. Employees here are very nice and fun to work with.
Cons
No adjustment of salary (COLA) for working in NYC. Starting salary was the same across all offices in the US, so a clear disadvantage if you are hired for the NY office.
Advice to Senior Management
Be honest about compensation in upcoming periods. Either increase base salary or provide some incentive for employees. For a job in the financial services industry, the pay is very poor.
Pros
- Casual and friendly atmosphere
- Clean and professional work space
- Some projects are interesting
- Pockets of real talent do exist
Cons
- Disengaged CEO
- The senior most leaders have weak relationships amongst themselves
- No energy or drive to really succeed
- Everything is a success - including failed projects
- No consequences for consistently missing deadlines on key projects
Advice to Senior Management
CEO should get engaged. FactSet has some great assets but is letting real success just slip through its fingers. It can never become the next great player until its senior leaders can really talk with each other and listen to what is going on.
Pros
FactSet is an incredibly fun and rewarding place to work. There is a lot of opportunity in terms of career development, and employees are given a huge amount of responsibility from the very beginning. The benefits are next to none, the pension plan is great, the free lunch is a nice perk, and you get free dinner on those nights where you are stuck working late.
The actual work is quite fun as well, you get to be social and go visit clients frequently. Depending on which team you are you can travel frequently.
I have never once gone to bed on a Sunday night feeling sad or annoyed about having to in to work the next day. That is the first time I can say that about any job..
Cons
There is a little to much mixing of people's personal lives and professional lives at FactSet. This can be a good and bad thing.
Advice to Senior Management
For people in the consulting role, it often feels like you have very few career options if you are not planning to go into sales. You should clarify what other career paths are available.
