I worked at Fairfax County Public Schools full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, days off, educational assistance, etc. There used to be a lot of flexibility in hiring and advancement. Great starting pay.

    Cons

Bureaucracy and the economic downturn has decreased the amount of hours given, the leniency and tightened restraints on hiring and advancement. It's not management's fault; there just is less money to make things happen.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep on truckin'

I worked at Fairfax County Public Schools full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

I was very pleased with the supportive and engaging work environment as well as the autonomy given to me as an HR professional. The flexibility in work hours and work-life balance (healthy lifestyle) were gratifying. I was given excellent training opportunities and was encouraged to grow personally and professionally. I enjoyed being part of a great HR team and was very encouraged by the expertise and professionalism of HR leadership.

    Cons

This is not a "con" but a caveat: This is a very large organization with many locations and to be successful candidates, as applicable to the job, must be able to quickly grasp and navigate the organizational structure and relevant systems.

I worked at Fairfax County Public Schools full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

great resources and decent pay salary for teachers

    Cons

too much time on data, unrealistic expectations from administration, lack of support from administration, parents can be nasty

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

let us teach and stop with all the fluffy meetings. All schools should have a data specialist so they can attend meetings and present data. County should make approved tests so it is common across schools.
