I worked at Fairfax County Virginia as an intern (more than an year)

    Pros

Amazing people who are driven and work oriented and a great transition into the working world. I worked in a small office and everyone played a substantial role in developing partnerships for local non-profits.

    Cons

My biggest con was the fact that I was only able to work 25 hour weeks and I would have liked full time employment if that had been a possibility, however funding was minimal and that is the way it turned out.

I have been working at Fairfax County Virginia full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

For social work its one of the better paying jobs without going federal.
    Great benefits.
Good vacation options and retirement plans.

    Cons

There could be better unity between different departments within the Community Service Board.
There have not been legitimate raises in over five years in the CSB.
Can be difficult to move up to hire positions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give the employees who deserve raises, raises!

I have been working at Fairfax County Virginia full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great county benefits. Great way to build relationships with the students, families, and school staff.

    Cons

No pay raises for the last 4-5 years due to budget freeze. Advancement within the company will result in shorter hours and less yearly salary but an increase in hourly wage. No longer hiring full-time 40 hour employees but require a degree to only work 25. Split shift can become frustrating after awhile.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    More employee perks and bonuses.

I have been working at Fairfax County Virginia full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits and coworkers generally have the best interest for the clients. There is a lot of training available.

    Cons

After initial training it's a type of "use it or loose it" industry. You may be put in one area to work and only use certain things that you learned in training. If they move you, it can be difficult to recall what you learned since you have not reviewed in a while

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Overall I believe that Fairfax County has some amazing leaders at the top...but by the time what they are trying to do gets passed down through the supervisors, moral may be lost.
